Re: JNK
I was so nervous going in that when the tech asked me if I had a boy or girl ( I was there this summer for a consult regarding the same tooth) that I answered girl and then awkwardly corrected it to boy!
But my experience was awesome. Seriously one of my best dental appointments ever. He got me perfectly numb and I didn't feel a thing. I mean even have had cleanings that were more painful when they use the scraper and hit your gums, haha!
I almost cancelled too because I thought the pain was getting better. Turns out the nerves were starting to die. He said they had so much that it was like they were giving up. Good thing I didn't cancel because apparently my tooth was really infected (sorry, so gross) and he kept telling me after he drilled that he could smell te infection and that there was a bunch of pus in there (yuck). So now I'm on antibiotics, but glad that it's behind me. Getting the crown/cap put on is no big deal right?
Anyway, I love that dentist and the office. I'm kinda sad I won't (hopefully!) be back.
Glad it went so well, and that you didn't chicken out!
I have a crown, and it was totally fine having it put on. I didn't have a root canal though. It just stinks that it is so freakin' expensive!
I know, it would have been over $800 without insurance! DH needed a root canal back before we met but didn't have insurance so he ended up getting it pulled.

Mae much as Delta frustrates me because they have a short list of who they cover (which I am assuming is because they provide sucky reimbursement to dentists and many don't want to deal with lower payments) i am thankful to have the insurance.
This made me LOL.
I have a crown and it really was no big deal. You have to be careful with the temporary but the perminant I have no issues. I do have to say that right after the crown my tooth ached. The dentist never said anything about that. But when I went back they said it was normal for a week or so. I'm happy to hear that you stuck it out and had it done. That infection could have gotten much worse.
