Reflux moms - Is your LO sleeping in the crib yet?

DD has been sleeping in her RnP since she was 2.5 weeks old and diagnosed with reflux. She's on Prevacid, which seems to help with the discomfort but she still spits up a lot. It doesn't matter how long I wait after feeding to put her on her back, she will spit up hours after she's eaten.

I think she should be sleeping in her crib by now. She's going to outgrow the RnP soon and I'm afraid if I wait any longer getting her to sleep in her crib is going to be a huge battle. I've tried laying her flat to sleep many time but it always ends up with her laying in a puddle of her own spit up.

Any suggestions on how to make crib sleeping more comfortable? I have read about elevating one of the mattress. Has this worked for anyone, and if so, what did you use?

  • We have a wedge under the crib mattress (using it under the mattress - not on top like the packaging shows - is the only way they are allowed to promote it in Canada). It's the Jolly Jumper brand, from BRU. Seems to help a bit but I also think he is starting to outgrow the reflux.

  • DD is not in her crib yet, but sleeps in a Travel Lite Crib (mini PnP).  She is just now getting comfortable enough on her meds and formula to sleep on her back, but she has always been a side sleeper.  She spits up but it has never been an issues while lying down.  Her Travel Lite Crib has towels rolled up under the feet on the head end and that seems to help.  I know they make wedges that elevate the mattress in the crib or you can roll up towels and put them under the mattress.

  • Yes, since 4 months. We use the wedge under the mattress to keep it elevated.

  • Have you tried laying her on her side rather than on the back? I know we're supposed to do "back to sleep" but reflux babies are recommended to lay on the side...sometimes even the belly...I have heard. DSs reflux seems to mostly be under control so I can lay him down in a flat crib with no problem now...previoulsy we used a wedge under the mattress.
