Sesame Place ?'s

We want to do a family trip to Sesame Place this summer. Any suggestions on places to stay or things to do, or any good deals you know about? How far in advance did you book? How was the drive down with your LO's? DH keeps making me afraid about how far & long the drive is.

Re: Sesame Place ?'s

  • We went in August! We stayed with my college roommate, so I don't have recs on where to stay. But we also visited The Crayola Factory on the way there - you could make it part of a meal stop. Ellie loved it and would love it even more now being older.  There are some pics of it on my facebook under the Ellie 2-2.5 yrs old album.

I wish we had done the Abby Cadabby magic pass thing. It allows you to cut in line which would have been ideal for a toddler. She was under 2 and I was pregnant (didn't do many rides) so would have only needed the pass for dh. I dont know if you would have to buy one for T also, which may not be worth it.

Pack your biggest stroller, even though it takes up more room than something like an umbrella.  There isn't much shade at all waiting in lines, so the canopy is nice for lo.  And I think it would be a pain to have your stuff in a locker instead of right with you.  We brought our Bob and I was so glad to have it.  Plus, you park pretty far from the gates so even that first walk is long.

We brought snacks and some drinks, but bought lunch there.  It was expensive, but to be expected because it is an amusement park.  I picked up a couple sesame things and brought them with us for dd instead of buying anything in the gift store there.  Like a pack of elmo, big bird, and cookie monster socks at Big Lots which she still loves, and a couple sesame board books from target.  The kids meal in the main eating area (which is air conditioned!) comes with a souvenier elmo plate and sesame cup which dd liked a lot too.  And if you bring a water bottle, you can fill up with ice and drink there also.

The drive ... I'll just say we are going back to the area next month and in may for a shower and wedding and our experience was the reason we bought a car DVD player in the hopes it goes better next time.  I really don't like the idea of the dvd player in the car, but have accepted it for long trips.  But you never know how it will go for you.  We drove to myrtle beach when she was younger and that drive went much better even though it was a lot longer.

  • Thanks for the tips! All good ideas! Did you stay over night near Crayola and then continue to SP the next day? How many days did you spend at SP??

  • We stayed in Bethlehem which was really close to Crayola Factory and within an hour of Sesame Place. We only did Sesame Place for 1 day because we were also there to hang out and visit with my friend. But actually, if it were just a family vacation we would have definitely done 2 days because the tickets were a 2-for-1 day deal. So we just did 1 day but spent the whole day there.

Crayola Factory we only spent an hour total there bc we hit traffic and got there about 30 minutes before they closed. They actually let us in for free since it was the end of the day. And then we went to their store that's attached and spent another half hour or so. It was perfect timing for a 2 year old, but if we go again in May, we will probably spend a couple hours in the factory just bc she is so in to coloring now. But it is small enough that you see it all within 15 minutes and then however long they do the activities. Or you could just do the store - they have a huge crayon in the middle to look at.

  • They have packages on the sesame website for hotel packages. Those might be nice especially bc if you do 2 days you don't feel bad about missing a few hours to go back to the room for naps if you wanted to. We didn't have the time so we just dealt with an over-tired 2 year old.

Also we didn't do the meet and greet meals with the characters. They roam the park so we still saw them all, we just had to wait in line if we wanted a picture of them. But we weren't sure if dd would be scared of them so we didn't sign up for the meals. It worked out well though bc dd was just as happy to walk by them and see them and we waited in line for a couple of them.
