Spa Recommendation--NOVA

I decided that for our Valentines Day & Mother's/Father's day combo present this year that we would hit the spa.

Please recommend your spa in NOVA.  I've been to Sugar House in Alexandria, and I want to try some place new.

BTW, we are in Springfield...but willing to travel.

Re: Spa Recommendation--NOVA

  • I like the Spa Minerale at Landsdowne.  It's a hike, but they have nice large changing rooms with whirlpools and saunas.  I've gotten massages and facials there and would say the massages are comparable to Sugar House. (Never had a facial at Sugar House, so not sure there but it was fine.)

They do offer side by side couples massage, if that's what you were thinking.  They may even have a separate relaxation area for couples, I'm not sure.

I also usually hit the outlet mall while I'm out there.

  • I was just at landowne on Saturday and had a nice time and experience. Also, if you want to stay closer- I like Serenity in old town (next to sport and health).

Edit: landowne is pricier that serenity but I think the services are comparable

  • I think that we might lean a little closer to Alexandria than Lansdowne.

We have a timeshare, and I just realized that I could get it for 1 night and stay at the National Harbor.....

  • The Gaylord must have a spa, right?   I really liked the spa at the Mandarin Oriental on the SW waterfront.  On a weekend that's an easy 15 min drive from Alexandria.  I will say that it is once of the more expensive places I've been, but I was impressed. (My service was also comped because there was construction going on and I could hear it in my room.  I mentioned something on the way out and the woman at the desk disappeared and came back and told me everything was taken care of.  I would recommend it regardless, but I was really impressed b/c I wasn't asking for anything, I just wanted them to know.)
  • Last year, we were meeting friends for dinner at National Harbor and they arrived early so they decided to go check out the spa at the Gaylord because they had heard good things about it (and they both love to go to spas). So, they get offered a tour of the facilities, etc... A guy takes the husband on a tour and a girl takes the wife- shows them the locker area, the massage rooms, etc.... The husband and wife meet up at the end of the tour and they get some information about pricing, etc. Then they say that they are meeting friends for dinner and will call back to make appointments.

So, it comes out at dinner that the guy giving the tour says to our friend something like, 'so this is where we do the couples massages and they are really great and romantic. we have learned that they are so romantic, that we let you stay in the room for 15-20 minutes after your massage is over. You know what I mean?'  The husband chalks it up to this guy is just a cheesy over-sharing sales guy but then we all started laughing hysterically when the wife was told the exact same thing! I guess they think it would make people be really interested??

So anyway, that is my irrelevant story about the spa at national harbor :-)

  • Mandarin Oriental Spa.  Hands down, best day spa in the metro area.  The spa at the Ritz doesn't come close to matching it (IMO).
