Pregnant after IF

Lack of Movement - Should I be concerned?

I woke up last Wednesday unable to breathe and went to the hospital. Ended up with a virus or something and have been incredibly sick since. The baby looked great. I didn't go to my NST on Friday because I've been horribly ill. LO didn't seem to mind and has actually been way more active than normal. That is until today. It's been a number of hours and I haven't really felt her move. I don't want to freak out for no reason but it's starting to make me nervous and I feel like it's my fault because I couldn't go to my NST. I'm kind of scared my violent coughing has hurt something in there. I know that sounds silly but it's been kind of awful, and my whole abdomen hurts from it. I really, really don't want to go to the hospital for the fourth time just to be told she's fine. What can I do to try to wake her up before I call??

Re: Lack of Movement - Should I be concerned?

  • Mine have been off and on, somedays they are quiet and it does concern me. Try drinking some juice/ gatorade and laying on your left side and wait about 10 min and see if LO moves. I was sick with norovirus last week and the day I got better they were moving like nuts! I notice movement at least twice a day for long periods of time, I know that they are now sleeping longer according to my "what to expect" book. I have an NST tomorrow and had a growth u/s Friday with biophysicals so I know they did ok. If your LO doesn't move within an hour of doing the juice laying down then give the doc a call and tell them your concern. Mine also have certain personalities (my girl is more quiet so I know what is "normal" for her, although my boy has been somewhat more quiet recently but I know he can't move much now!!)

Never hurts to call though!! Hugs!!

  • As you know, I went in a few weeks ago for lack of movement and there he was bouncing all over.  The nurse gave me a great suggestion ... stick an ice pack on your belly.  Leave it there for a little bit and she will feel the cold and move away from it.

Lay on your left side, drink something cold and sugary.

She may also just be having a more quiet day since she was so busy over the weekend with all the coughing, etc.

If nothing works, I'm a firm believer in go be checked for your own sanity. :)

  • Thanks hon. I was just about to get some juice and lay down and she finally decided not to scare her momma anymore. I Was kind of hoping she'd move as soon as I posted lol. It's weird because now every movement feels so big so sometimes when she is moving I don't notice because it doesn't make my whole stomach jump!

  • i'm glad she decided to start moving again and calm your nerves.

I go through this worry about every other day and I have to remind myself that she is probably just sleeping.  And I def notice there are longer periods of no movement when I had a really busy day the day before or when I am sick.

hang in there, your getting so close now.
