Pregnant after IF

XP: Antagonist Protocol IVFers...please come in!

From 3T...  I wrote last week when IVF#1 didn?t make it to transfer due to all embryos arresting by day 3.  My RE believes it was an egg quality issue.  This frightens me and I am just looking for a little hope.

My protocol was Long Lupron and next time around he is going to switch me to Antagonist.  My AMH and FSH are ?normal? so he does not see the need to use estrogen priming.

1) Did anyone do Long Lupron with poor results and switch to Antagonist with success?

2) If you were told you had poor egg quality the first time around, did quality improve on subsequent cycles? (I know supplements can play a role in this, so please share if you used anything)

3) How long did you wait between your IVF cylces?  My RE is fine with us jumping right back in, but I can help but wonder if I should give my body some time to rest in between.

Any other insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Re: XP: Antagonist Protocol IVFers...please come in!

  • I did a lupron micro-flare for my successful cycle, I wasn't successful on the antagonist, but it's all trial and error and sounds like this may be a great solution for you. I think my body responded a bit differently than what the RE had hoped just based on my age and other factors, but egg quality was a bit of an issue for me.

I did change up some things between cycles, I cut out coffee completely and took: Omega 3-6-9, vitamins E, D and B12 and CQ10 along with my PNV and baby Asprin.

We did do back to back cycles (save about 3 weeks where I was on BCP to be able to fit into my clinic's schedule), and I don't regret it at all. I think if  I had more time to think I would have analyzed everything to death and potentially backed out, this way it was headfirst into it and I just went through the motions without checking in emotionally. It's what worked for me, and obviously my body had no problems since round 2 was our success.

    Good luck!

  • Antagonist was my best protocol...I have no real egg issues, but i'm not young.

I did EPP, and LL...antagonist produced the ONLY decent embryo i ever got.  Out of 36 eggs retrieved.  Good luck!

Thanks!  Just so I am clear - you mean you did EPP aside from antagonist (not with)?

  • Yes i did both.  My 2nd cycle was straight antagonist...which produced the 1 embie im now carrying.  I did EPP w antagonist as my third cycle and was my worst of all 3.

  • I'm not sure how much my info will help, since we were fortunate enough to conceive on our first cycle, but I did use a straight antagonist protocol with no lupron before, just BCPs.  Like PP, we only ended up having one really good quality embryo, despite putting 3 back.

We had no known issues other than a blocked tube, and I imagine any age-related egg quality issues, since I'm 38, but we never did any testing in that regard.

All my info is in my sig, FWIW.  Good luck to you!

  • I was actually the opposite.  I did an antagonist protocol the first time and didn't have great success (transferred the only 2 we had on day 5 and BFN). We switched to a long lupron the second time and had a much better success (transferred 2, pregnant with 1 and have 3 frozen).

We waited one cycle in between ... had a BFN in early May and started Lupron with the next cycle.

    Good luck!!

  • 1. I didn't respond to Lupron protocol at all. Cycle was canceled.

    2. I didn't have egg quality issues.

    3. I had to get one period before starting a new cycle.

  • I've done both protocols. I seem to respond better to long Lupron. But in terms of egg quality I did human growth hormone (HGH) shots with this last cycle and this one finally worked!!! The shots are expensive but they are suspose to help! Definately something to ask your RE about. Good luck!

  • I did! My first ivf was long lupron. I have pcos I got a lot of eggs but they were not good quality. I did a 3dt of 2 and had a chemical pregnancy. 2 were frozen got pregnant but m/c early. I switched dr.s and he said the reason for both losses seem to be egg quality. He switched to antagonist. I had a lot of eggs and I ended up with 5 awesome blastocysts. I put two in and am pregnant with 1. 3 are frozen. Because of the m/c and switching dr I did take quite a few months off. Good luck and hth!
