Another beach-related question

If you go to the beach with a kid in diapers, how do you deal with the diaper situation? From what I understand, swim diapers only hold in poop, not pee. So you're supposed to put them on right before going in the water, and then change them back into regular diapers as soon as they're done with the water. This works fine when going to the pool for a finite amount of time, but how does it work at the beach, when you may be in and out of the water multiple times? Do you just go through a ton of swim diapers?

Re: Another beach-related question

  • Honestly, we just used regular diapers. Occasionally they would get completely sopping wet and we'd need to change it, but even last year when he was really into  playing in the (very small) waves and surf, it was never that big a deal. Easier to change a ginormous regular diaper than to clean up a puddle of pee on your beach towel, IMO.

  • we used regular diapers for the beach and only put on swim diapers for the pool...we changed tehm when they got soppy but honestly with a little guy we weren't on the beach for long periods of time and in the water even less than that so we didn't usually have to change it

Ditto.  Especially since even when DS would go near the ocean, he wasn't getting too wet.

This was us for the baby.  For DD I bought her reusable swim bottoms that have an absorbent layer that hold pee since she was running around.

Tip I learned last year, before you put the diaper on, powder those little bottoms.  It really helps ensure the sand doesn't stick in uncomfortable places.
