Help... Please!

Hi ladies, my sweet lo has been sleeping so well until February rolled around and we had company here for a week and his schedule got way out of whack. And try as I might and believe me I am trying he will not revert to his schedule and is up multiple times during the night for as long as 2 hours because nothing I do inspires him to sleep in his bed during this time :(

One of my good friends suggested Babywise and I want to know your thoughts... are you doing it? Do you like it? Pros and cons?

Thank you so much!

  • I'd love to see the answers for this!  Haven't heard of babywise, I might need to google that.  Our LO is very sensitive to the slightest changes in his "schedule".  He had been up for almost 2 hours (which isn't uncommon for him) and was perfectly happy.  Then MIL came over and he stayed up for another 2 hours.  THAT was way beyond what he could handle.  His sleep was off for the rest of the day and most of the next.

  • The nail in our sleep coffin was when my parents were here and my in laws decided that we should all go out to dinner... I said fine as long as we got at 6 because the place they picked is almost an hour away. Everything was going to plan until thumo, thump, thump, a flat tire! Crying We ended up getting home at 11 which is WAY later than he usually eats in the evening.

Another issue we have is that his dad is a farmer and rancher and gets home later than the average worker. After he gets home he takes his sweet ass time to shower and eat dinner and then wants to play with the baby. He keeps the baby up until 2 am sometimes grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... but that is his only time with the baby and I would feel very bad taking it away :(

  • I have heard great things about baby wise. I read the book, and LO seems to naturally follow that plan. I need to work on keeping her awake after eating. I actually found the book at goodwill

  • I would do a little research before using the Babywise system. There have been reports of babies having growth issues, mothers having supply issues etc. because of the system's high focus on an arbitrary schedule, instead of listening to the baby's needs.
  • If you actually read the book they explain their "schedule" system. They tell you to be flexible and to listen to your baby. I really don't understand the backlash. People even claim babies have died from this, but come on people use common sense. The only thing is that they approach it from a scientific approach compared to a psychological one. I likes it better than baby whisperer because I'm very scientific minded. But they are basically the same theory.

I haven't read either Babywise or the Baby Whisperer as I'm not a big fan of baby rearing "systems". I just remember reading some bad reviews and thought the OP might want to check them out before making a decision. One thought I have though, if you are ultimately going to end up being flexible and following you baby's  cues, what's the point of the book/system?
