Sleep Sheep... worth it?

i'm considering buying one of these to help with DS's night wakings. we've been either using music on our ipods (a little too upbeat for nighttime) or white noise app on our phones, which we can't leave in the nursery with him. any reviews on whether it's worth the money?

Re: Sleep Sheep... worth it?

  • It's great on the ocean setting, but only while it's on. It shuts itself off after 47 minutes and that's when DS wakes up again, too. So we now use our plain old white noise maker that you plug into the wall and it stays on all night. He sleeps really well and only wakes up once per night to eat, so I think it works for us! :) We will try the sheep again when he is a bit older or when we travel.

Just buy a sound machine. There are plenty out there that have a variety of sounds and are under $20. Sleep Sheep is cute and all, but wouldn't spend my money on it.

We have a Conair one that we got as a gift when Ben was born. We used it with him until Molly was born. She sleeps with it now and it works great!

Ditto this.  Don't waste your money...

  • We received one as a gift and I really like it.  However, if I were buying, I would get something that doesn't shut off after 45 minutes.  It was convenient when traveling by car b/c we attached it to the carseat (thanks to a rec from MrsPurdue).  But yeah, if you're going to buy something, just get a non-baby white noise machine that stays on forever and probably costs less.
  • we have the sleep sheep and if you're wanting to use it to help with night wakings, i'd suggest a constant white noise machine (they're about the same price). we use it as her sleep cue to get her to go to sleep, but like ppl said, it turns off after 45 minutes, so it won't be of any use to help keep him asleep during the night.

do you have an old smart phone that you aren't using anymore?  or an ipod that you have an external speaker for?  then you could avoid buying anything and just use the white noise app (or download a white noise mp3 and put it on repeat on an ipod).

you could also just use an old radio and tune it to a station that doesn't get reception for the same effect.

might be something to try to see if it will work before dropping money on a white noise machine.

  • since i have an ipod thing with speakers, can i just download some mp3s and play them on repeat? would that have the same effect? there are a few on amazon for $6 of oceans, streams, waterfalls, etc.

you answered my question. :) gonna download some 99 cent mp3s and try that out.

  • Does your ipod thing take apps? If it does, I would get the WhiteNoise app. It has tons of different sounds, and there is a free version available. I use it all the time when I'm traveling, and it's awesome.

  • Ditto. Target and Amazon have sound machines under $20 that STAY ON. Stupid sleep sheef goes off after 23 or 47 minutes and wakes up the damn baby. Then you have to strangle the sleep sheep in front of your baby.

  • I'm shocked at all the hate! ;-)

Both my kids have one and it's my favorite thing on the planet and will sing its praises all day. No it's not going to keep them asleep but mine never had a problem after it shut off. I just needed help with that part.

Ha!!! I also recommend a normal sound machine. I have the sheep and neither of my kids like/liked it.

oh, i LOVE my sleep sheep!  I just don't think it's good for what she wants/needs (to keep the baby asleep, not help him fall asleep).
