Hi ladies!
I'm newish to the boards -- I was on the Knot when I was planning my wedding, now over 5 years ago! I think I recognize some of you from around that time... I got married in September of 2006.
So now my husband and I are thinking about starting a family! I'm really excited -- can't quite believe that we're at that point in our lives, but we are really among the very last of our friends to have children. Anyway, I'm ecstatic and spooked and happy and scared all at the same time. You know the feeling, I'm sure, if you are on here!
Anyway... I've been with the same GYN (she is an OB, as well) for several years hoping to form a relationship so that I'd really know the person that was working with me during pregnancy. But, I'm not so sure, now that I've been more actively thinking about pregnancy, that she'll give me the "care" that I need. She's very "to-the-point." I love this for annual appointments -- they are over in, like, five minutes or less. But when it comes to being an expectant mom, I am not so sure... do I want someone who is more kind/caring/attentive? What if I'm scared? I get the impression she might be like, "Silly woman! That's nothing to worry about!" when maybe what I need is someone who will listen a bit more.
So I thought I'd put it to the group to see if anyone had any particularly awesome docs that they'd recommend. I'm hoping for someone with GBMC privileges and who takes BC/BS.
Thank you in advance! I've been poking around on the boards for a few days without posting here in Baltimore, yet, so I look forward to chatting with you all!
Re: New(ish) to boards and iso OBGYN recs
Welcome!!
I don't have any OBGYN recs for you because I'm in the wrong area, but just wanted to mention that most of your prenatal appts will be quick 5 min appts with not much going on (pee in a cup, hop on the scale, measure your belly, and ask questions if you have any). I agree that you want someone caring and compassionate, but (IMO) to-the-point is good too. But if you feel that she doesn't listen to you, then maybe it is a good idea to look for someone else!
Also, maybe you already know this and I'm rambling, but usually if you go to a practice with more than 1 Dr, you will see them all throughout your pregnancy and anyone of them could happen to be on call when you go into labor.
There are a lot of GBMC girls on here so I'm sure someone will have a rec for you. Good luck!

I went to the same GYN for over 10 years and when I got pregnant just continued on with her. I loved her for my annual, I never had any problems so it was no time flat. My first few appts for the pregnancy were like that too and at first it was ok, but then I had some questions and totally got the brush off. I switched practices at 30 weeks.
ETA: all that to say- good for you for realizing now that it may be a problem. I wish I would have realized sooner!
