Re: How do you plan on feeding baby? (poll)

  • I will try BF - I had a reduction a number of years ago, and was unable to BF DS because my milk never came in. If I can't, I'm okay with formula feeding.

  • I voted SS.  I plan on BF from the source.  But, not opposed to pumping and bottle feeding the breast milk, which will likely be done when I go back to work.

  • I'm planning to BF for at least the first year.  I'll pump at work when mat leave is over and nurse on the mornings/evenings/weekends.

I had a great supply with DD so I didn't need to use formula though I'm not opposed if I need to.  Baby has gotta eat!

This is my plan, but I voted BF from the Source.

  • I'm still nursing DD. She never had formula, but I did work part time for 3 months and then full time for 3 months before I became a SAHM, so I pumped and she was bottle fed for that time.

I am thinking of going back to work part time when this baby is around 3-6 months old, so we will probably do the same - a mix of source and pumping/bottle feeding.

  • I'll try BFing again, but last time my son's palette was too concave to latch properly and he caused nerve damage, so I pumped exclusively for 6 months.  I refuse to be a slave to the pump this time around, so if this LO can't latch, I'll probably pump and supplement until I go back to work, and then just use formula.  I was miserable and exhausted with DS and carried that pump with me everywhere.....I refuse to let it ruin my life again.  ;)

  • Probably could use the option (BF from the source + pump).

My goal is to BF as long as I can.  When I go back to work, I'll obviously need to pump and bottle feed.

Last time I made it 3 weeks BF, 3 weeks pumping, and then couldn't keep up.  Hoping to take everything I learned last time to make it longer this time.

  • The plan is to exclusively BF or pump while I'm on maternity leave, then see how well it works after that and supplement with formula if I need to.  DH is going to be a SAHD, so it's important to me that he be able to participate in feedings once we are comfortable baby will nurse when the breast is available.

  • I did not BF DS or DD for several reasons (short maternity leave, no place to pump at work, etc.) but things have changed a bit this time so I do plan on trying to BF this baby.  If it doesn't work out, I have no problem going to formula again. I have two healthy FF babies =)

  • I'm another who plans to breastfeed and while I think it mostly be from the source, I'll also pump and bottle feed as needed. I'm also not opposed to supplementing with formula, but my preference is to EBF.

  • I voted wrong... haha. I checked mix of BF and Formula, but that's not really my plan at all! Whoops!

At first I will just BF, then I'll have to get use to pumping since I'll be going back to work.

  • I am planning to BF and pump when needed but I won't be upset if for some reason BF doesn't work out and I have to FF.

  • I FFd my first two, and loved it.  It was really nice that DH was equally involved in feedings, and I felt confident my babies were just as well off as any BFd kid.  Selfishly, it was nice to have my body back to myself after pregnancy.

I'm going back and forth on this one.  Part of me thinks it would be simpler to BF for awhile at first (I'm flashing back to the time spent at the sink scrubbing bottles) and it would certainly be a lot cheaper.  IDK.  Jury's out, but it's probably 70/30 with FF in the lead.  ;)

  • I haven't 100% decided. I had my heart set on bfing ds and when it didn't work out I was attached to my pump all day every day and so heartbroken. I don't really want to go down that path again. I would like to try to BF for awhile but if it doesn't work out I'm going to try to be ok with it this time!

  • I plan to breastfeed, but will pump and bottle feed when I have to go back to work.  I'm also hoping to pump for a while when I'm home to build up a supply of breast milk in the freezer to start off with.

  • I voted for SS

I always had planned to BF my DD but my milk never came in, and while everyone said keep at it keep at it.  I watched as she lost weight and constantly wanted to eat because she wasn't getting anything. My milk just never came no matter how much I pumped.

This time around I?ll try to BF and I?m going to try lots of tricks to see if I can help simulate my milk (lactation tea, lactation cookies pumping sooner) but if my milk never comes again I?ll go right back to FF this one as well.

  • I BFed and gave pumped milk with DD for the first year and would like to do the same with this kiddo.

  • EBFed DS until he was 5 months (besides pumping one day a week when I worked out of the office), when they suggested I supplement with formula because his weight percentile was dropping significantly. The pedi told me, "Your breastmilk is essentially skim." Um, ok, thanks.

The formula did NOT help him gain. I am still very bitter about it. I nursed/FF 50/50 until he self-weaned at 10.5 months. He's just a skinny guy and is off the charts in height. I will definitely not be following that advice in a similar situation again.

  • I will BF. I am still BF DD who is 3 and will probably end up tandem feeding them if my milk does not dry up in the meantime.

With DD I had late onset of milk due to CS and she was supplemented the first week due to having lost 12% of birth weight. I don't think the same will happen this time as I may still be nursing DD so the milk will already be there.

We do child led weaning. I now WFH but I WOH from the time DD was 4-14m and pumped for her the whole time. Looking forward to not having to do that again :)

  • I planned on BFing DS, but it was so incredibly painful, I exclusively pumped.  My milk supply lasted for about 3 weeks, then i was mixing, then went to all formula.  The beauty of this was there was no engorgement pain with just pulling the plug all at once.  It was gradual until it just didn't produce anymore.  I think I am going to attempt it again, and may end up in the same position.  Hopefully this kid isn't a vulture like DS.

  • I haven't decided for sure yet, but I'm either going to BF for the first couple of months while I'm on maternity leave and then switch to formula or just jump straight to formula.

I BF and pumped/bottlefed (while I was at work) with DD for a full year.  I loved BFing, but I really disliked pumping.  I'm definitely not up to pumping at work this go around.

  • Formula, I'll BF while in the hospital and while on maternity leave and switch over to formula once I go back to work.  I FF my son and he's perfectly fine, I'll FF this one as well.

  • I selected BF only, but I will BF/pump from the get go.  This is what we did with DD and I did it for a year.  We've had so many friends whose babies wouldn't take a bottle, so we'll start those ASAP.

  • Like many, I chose BF only but plan on a EBF/pump-bottlefeed as I can't always be with baby. Working, pumping and breastfeeding, esp through the first 6 months, was the hardest thing I've done but if I have confidence I can do it again.
  • Proud breastfeeder here.

Im still nursing DD and plan to tandem nurse assuming DD doesn't self wean prior.

Bfing was hard at first, but sticking with it was the BEST decision I ever made. It's so damn easy and convenient. Not to mention healthier for the baby and for me.

  • Not an option, so I clicked ss. I'll ebf, pumping and straight from the source. Likely for the first year and then, we'll make our own food.

  • I put BF & Formula, because when my sister had her baby, she had trouble getting enough milk pumped for the hours that she was at work, so she had to use formula on occasion--I'm just telling myself that I'll have to do the same so that if my situation is similar, I won't be devastated or anything.

  • Probably a combo BF/formula with the twins. I hate pumping and can't imagine having 2 nursing and trying to pump so DH can help with feedings. Most likely we'll use both.
