Had an Aww day the other day!

Just feel like sharing! My DD has been diagnosed recently with autism and she is a semi-new walker and doesn't talk much. She says about 2 words and babbles a lot. The one word she does say from time to time is cuktis (cookies) and dada (daddy).

We recently started therapy and so far it is working wonders already. One of my line therapists brought balloons (my DD is obsessed with string and objects that can go on them) and we blew up the whole bag and she was ecstatic! She was so happy but wouldn't focus on anything else the rest of the shift.

Right at the end, my line grabbed a book after the 30th time of being rejected to look at other books and it was a picture of objects book (like it has pieces of clothing, food, animals, etc) and she grabbed it from her. She grabbed her hand and directed which one she wanted to know about (she does that with me mostly, and rarely with DH) and we were making it goofy and fun and she pushed our hands away and went really still. After like 30 seconds of staring at the page, she pointed to the cookie in the book, said "Cuktis!" and threw the book in front of her and continued playing with the balloons! It was so amazing to see her see something in a book and relate it to words! We show her cookies in her kitchen and once in a great while she'll say it, but she'd never pointed to something in a book and said what it was! We were so happy and I was crying!

We went into her room before all of this happening and we played a gear motivation game. I never really looked at the tops of the gears much, and I didn't know they had a match to the base of the game. she has been putting them in a certain order the last few days and she's been matching the gears to the right base! I was so focused on the fact that she was playing appropriately with it I never even noticed! My baby girl is so awesome! Sorry that it was so long but I am a proud Mama!
