Miralax

Anyone use Miralax for their LO?  Gavin's been having a difficult time going, and lately he's been telling me he doesn't want to because it hurts his butt.  I have written down from his appt last year that the dr said to give him 1/2 capful of Miralax if this happens again, but I only have powder sample packets right now.  Anyone use it?  How much?  Thanks!

Re: Miralax

  • When Justin 1st started pt'ing we used it. My sister is a pediatric nurse and recommended it. Just 1/2 cap in his sippy and he never noticed- and he only drinks water. He had a "normal" bm- I was scared it would get him diarrhea or something but it was fine.

  • Nope, but I bought it per the ped's rec and then she went so I didnt need to use it yet. It would still be 1/2 cap for G and you can mix it in to what he normally drinks. How much does it say is in the sample? I am guessing you would use half the packet unless they are specific for pediatrics.
  • The packet does say '1 dose' K, so I'll do half.  Thanks so much, ladies!
  • Oh yes big fans over here!  Had to give it to L a lot when he really started eating solids.  Poor kids has his father's stomach issues.  :(
  • A's mom over uses it IMO. It can cause cramping and become a habit or "needed". I would use lowest dose possible and try not to let him become dependent. I am not a fan but also have never seen a kiddo truly need it.

    Good luck!

  • I am a huge fan of Pedialax Fiber gummies.  I also use Benefiber, I do a big teaspoon to start and work upwards of there.  But make sure they get plenty of fluids with fiber (or it can make problems worse).
  • I give Leah Miralax like 2 times per week. It's just enough to keep her going. I have heard that it's far more common for girls to have issues and boys. Leah was SCREAMING and crying to poop and it was terrible. She drinks tons of water, eats prunes and pears and lots of fiber. None of that worked.

I mean grams? If it says 17 grams, that is 1 adult dose

  • We have been using it with Ava for the past year or so. When we miss a dose she has painful poops that make her cry and whimper :-(  It's a PITA because we have to find the balance between too much and not enough since too much will make her stools too loose and then make her bum raw.

I saw Arctic Fox's rec for fiber gummies so I might try those, to see if they work as well.

Yup, half of the packet is perfect for him then!
