BF'ers...Food!

Are there any foods that you are avoiding....or found out the hard way that you shouldn't eat?

So far, I'm not eating tomato-basil soup and tacos....DD was fussy and would NOT sleep on the evenings I had those for dinner.  I'm not even going to attempt cheesy-broccoli soup (I made a huge batch when I was pg and froze it...bummer!)

Re: BF'ers...Food!

  • Yes, tomato soup did not sit well at all with him. I had asparagus 2 days in a row and it gave him gas. I try to monitor the ice cream too. I don't drink milk and use minimum cheese so ice cream is my weakness with dairy.

  • I'm not really avoiding anything. The other night I had a buffalo chicken sandwich and he had a horrible night. Not sure if it would of even hit my breastmilk that fast. I've had plenty of other spicy foods that haven't affected him.

  • So far just broccoli which is killing me, I never realized how much broccoli I eat!  I L-O-V-E Panera's Broccoli Cheese soup and it was one of my weekly lunches.  I also used to steam it at least twice a week for dinner.

  • I pretty much have to avoid all dairy because it gives DS so much gas. He wasn't sleeping at all and I slowly started cutting it out and he sleeps from 8 p.m. - 3 a.m. now! It's so hard though because I love cheese!

  • 100% dairy free, including hidden dairy (in breads, baked goods, cooking anything with butter...) and beans. The one time I had beans LO was a mess.

  • Caffeine! Every time I have it lo is crazy and stays up all night crying and fussy, ITs like she is on crack. I had to cut it out completely and she has been fine since. I miss chai lattes the most :(

  • My LO doesn't like anything that involves cabbage. I had a ruben and she was cranky from the sauerkraut. Then another time I had cole slaw. No good again. So I guess I'll have corned beef without cabbage for St Patty's Day.

  • I try to avoid onions, broccoli, tomatoes, anything too acidic. She had a fussy period around 6-7 weeks where I was scared I was going to have to cut dairy but my pedi said that babies just have to work out the kinks in their digestive systems and it just takes a bit for them to mature and not be so sensitive.
  • Nothing yet. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Same here. I have noticed that when I eat pancakes or beans his poop smells completely awful though.

This. Not sure if I am "lucky" or I just don't make the connection between what I ate and LO being fussy.

  • LO is allergic to soy so I stopped eating that. I think she's also sensitive to dairy so I cut out even hidden dairy.

  • I still eat everything but like pp said, I definitely could just not be making a connection between what I ate and her fussy periods.

  • I have eaten shrimp fajitas twice and both times he was up all night with gas.  I think it is the bell peppers b/c I eat spicy foods quite often as well as onions and shrimp and thoses things don't seem to bother him.

same here,, I don't drink a lot to begin with but the one time I did with dinner LO had a melt down at bed time.
