Re: ***First Year Check-In***
I'm waiting for DD to start rolling over. I'm sure it's coming soon as she's a little over 3 months. This is tied to the one I'm worried about...weaning her from the swaddle. I'm sure it's going to be rough as pretty much everything has been rough with her! But her night sleep has actually been going well so I hate to mess with it.
I feel like we're finally starting to move out of the crazy newborn, fussiness. She's smiling more and laughing some, which is so great. I'm looking forward to getting to a more regular day schedule...as the napping has been rough. It's hard with the boys though. We can't really just stay at home...and I'll go pretty crazy if we do that anyways.
we had been waiting for DS to start crawling... he started trying to crawl about 2 weeks ago and nailed it two nights ago! he was kinda moving around before but more a stretchy/spinny baby. life will never be the same! i really was in no rush for a mobile baby but we're here and it is exciting but much harder to get ready in the mornings now! need a baby cage!
He got his first tooth just before new year's and is working on all three of his other front teeth. they all just broke the surface! sleeping sucks but that's a whole other post... and for now, I will continue to blame the teeth for our sleeping issues as of lately.
we're waiting on the crawling, and I can't really say if she's close or not. If we just lay her on her tummy, she never gets to her knees to rock. she'll manage to drag herself forward or spin, but tummy time doesn't seem to be doing the trick. However, when she's sitting, she'll put her hands down, get one leg behind her, and curl the other one up underneath of her, so she is on hands and knees and rocking. But that one foot is stuck underneath, so I have no idea how she thinks she's going to crawl from that position! It really does look like she's getting close like that though, so maybe she'll surprise us.
Can't really say that I'm looking forward to a mobile baby, but it would be nice for her to hit a milestone somewhat on time. She only recently started rolling (at 8 months), so I don't want her to miss this one too.
J really only started rolling a bunch lately too. he *could* do it... he'd done it a handful of times from early on but simply never did. suddenly he's rolling like crazy in the last few weeks! i bet she's about to start crawling! what you're describing is what J was doing!
QOTW: we are waiting for crawling. he's starting to get on all fours or sometimes do a plank pose on his toes. daycare told me this morning he's army crawling across the floor so i'm guessing by this weekend or the next we'll have to stop putting him down and expecting him to be there when we get back.
Updates: nothing really to update, DS is doing well, loving his purees and puffs/mums. his sleeping still amazes me and i knock on wood every time i talk about it. he sleeps 12 hours straight i and usually have to wake him up in the am. on weekends he'll sleep in until 9 or later!
We are getting ready for crawling! not looking forward to baby proofing the house but that seems to be the next milestone- not that she's made any indication of it coming. oh and getting some teeth. anytime she wakes up crying at night i'm always like maybe there are teeth coming! but i've yet to see any. i got dd one of those leapfrog activity tables and we've been working on standing- she seems to really like playing with it- and by that i mean banging on it.
QOTW: I think independent standing (or walking :::falls over dead:::) is next. He is already super fast crawling and is pulling up on anything he can get his hands on. He's just beginning to cruise on furniture and will even take steps behind the little lion push toy we have. All he wants to do all day is stand-stand-stand. I'm a little scared because he has already shown himself to be way more fearless than big sis, and I have enough gray hairs as it is.
Update: He's healthy!! And his appetite has returned and he will now miraculously let us feed him purees!! We've got a weight check on Friday to make sure he's back to gaining now that he's healthy, and my fingers are crossed for good news. He's got another four (!!) teeth coming in--two of them just broke yesterday (interestingly enough, top left front and left canine...top right front nowhere to be seen). We're having a little trouble with him biting while nursing, but I think he's learning mommy gets very upset with him when that happens and isn't doing it as much. And the most fun development is that we can play ball with him now! We roll the ball to him, he grabs it and actually throws/rolls it back to us. It's adorable and amazing and I can't believe he can do that already.
QOTW: I'm not excited about having a mobile baby either, I keep looking around the house and sighing at all of the stuff he's probably going to get into. He seems to be obsessed with cords, too as he goes straight for them. Ugh.
Update: he's been doing the army crawl pretty well for a few weeks. He keeps getting on his knees and rocking, but then falls to his stomach and scoots. We think he's close though! And the kid loves him some food, he gobbles everything up. We did sleep training around 6 months and he's mostly STTN, which is awesome. And he'll nap for more than 40 min occasionally, which is really nice too.
omg, what is it with the cords?? My dad laughs and says he's a tech guy already.
I am slightly less amused.
Are you using teething tablets? Those saved sleep us for months.
QOTW: he's *this* close to rolling over. he's rolled over 3 times one day but hasn't repeated it again, but it's getting ever so close.
Update: he's taking bottles at daycare now (yay!), but i'm having the worst time pumping at work. i can't always get a letdown. right now, i'm trying to be discrete about massaging my clogged duct under my right armpit since i can't seem to get the milk OUT of my boobs. ugh. i'm going to ask my endocrinologist what we can do. from what i've read, thyroid disease can affect letdown - something about low oxytocin.
besides my woes, kid is still waking up at odd hours. sometimes he goes back down easily, sometimes not. but he's happy and chipper in the morning, so it doesn't seem to bother him.
can you add me? i might not be able to post too often but i'll do my best:)
jakob (jake) 10/13/2011
QOTW: looking towards rolling consistently and sitting up. he's done the tummy to back a few times but not a lot. max was never one for rolling so we'll see what jake does.
update: he's a really good baby and i can't believe he's almost 4 mos. i always thought my oldest was a big kid but jake is out doing him in every way:) i put jake in some jammies that max was wearing when he was 8-9months old, he's probably about 27 inches and 18 lbs. we'll know for sure at his 4 month well check in 2 weeks. he's been sleeping pretty good with usually 2 night wakings...one to eat and one where he just needs soothed back to sleep.
QOTW: Right now we're just waiting for DD#2 to be able to hold her own head up for longer periods of time. She absolutely hates tummy time but she needs to strengthen that neck of hers! I think she'd rather figure out how to roll over ASAP than do tummy time. I'm not ready for her to start rolling over.
Update: Today was my first day back at work which means it was DD#2's first day of daycare. I'm a complete mess but luckily DD#2 has done wonderfully. Apparently she had a great morning and didn't cry, and I got to visit her at lunchtime. She was all smiles when I left. She loves to smile and "talk" to us. I just can't get enough of her! She's starting to establish a pattern or schedule of sorts. I don't know how going to daycare will affect that, but we'll see. We've managed to continue to nurse even though we have to supplement with formula because my supply sucks. I really hope going back to work doesn't completely do us in because I'm actually enjoying nursing her now and don't want to stop just yet.
