How many blankets/sleep sacks do I need?

I've received quite a few swaddling blankets, plus one Halo Sleep Sack. Any suggestions on how many of these I actually need? I know the blankets can be used for plenty of other things, but I'm not really sure how often they'll need to be washed, etc.

  • Good question! I was wondering the same thing!

  • I have used the follwing with my other three babies:  1 miracle blanket (love this), 1 swaddler, 2 fleece sleep sacks, 1 cotton sleep sack, about 15 cloth diapers (for spit up or under baby's chin while nursing to catch all 'extra'), and about 8 receiving blankets.  I did laundry about twice a week and never ran out.  This one will be baby number 4 for us so I am now up to doing laundry four times a week.
  • Thanks for asking this. I had my shower this weekend and have a total of 8 receiving blankets, three swaddling blankets, 2 blankets that I will probably use for when she's on the floor, and 3 home made knitted ones.

I was debating on whether to take a pack of the receiving blankets back, but it sounds like I should keep them.

  • We registered for two swaddlers in small, medium and large and we have two sleep sacks in large.  We didn't register for any blankets since it will be a while until baby girl can be in her crib with a blanket anyway.  My shower is this Saturday and I'm sure I will receive blankets anyway.
