Question from a lurker

I have been lurking here for a little over a year -since DH & I began our ttc journey -but have never posted. I have learned so much from you ladies, so thank you! Smile

I am very excited to BW when little man arrives and am trying to start my stash with a variety of carrier types to see what works for us once he arrives. So far I only have a Moby wrap. I've also registered for an Ergo, which we will definitely be purchasing ourselves if we don't receive it at the shower. DH is ordering an item from Target.com & told me to add something in so that we can qualify for free shipping and I am contemplating ordering a Balboa Baby sling. Have any of you used this with your LO & if so, is it a good one to have?! Thank you for any advice you can give!

I hope your weekend is going wonderfully!

Re: Question from a lurker

  • For the price, you can do better is sort of what I've read. A ring sling is more adjustable and versatile.

Target has the Infantino Wrap and Tie, which I actually liked a lot. Of what they carry online, that's the only one I'd recommend (aside from the Moby and the Ergo).

  • I would skip the Balboa. Something about the fact that in their promotional materials parents are not wearing their babies per safe BW guidelines makes me doubt that this is a company that really "gets" safe, comfortable babywearing. (Baby's head should be high enough to kiss, never have chin to chest, and the semi-reclining cradle position is not advocated). Maya is a ring sling brand that is most wide-spread and reputable. I'll admit, Target had no baby carriers that interested me.
  • I wouldnt go out and buy a ton of carriers. I think you're fine with the moby for now. The ergo isnt going to be something you'll need until 4+ months, and by that point you will know if babywearing works for you and baby or not. My oldest never took to it, but my youngest loves it. Of course, if you get the ergo as a shower gift, great! It's an awesome carrier.

A local maternity store around here carries a wide variety of carriers and lets you try them on in store. They even have a rental program so you can try them out for a bit. Look for babywearing classes in your area as it's a great way to learn/try out carriers.
