BLW and YoBaby yogurt

Hi there,

My ds is 7 months old and we have been doing BLW right from 6 months. He was EBF until then. We just recently started giving him the yogurt with fruits for breakfast. My question is: He loves all of the flavors including plain, but since he feeds himself with preloaded spoon the yogurt usually ends up all over his face. He seems to rash out ONLY where the yogurt has touched his skin, not just around the mouth as some describe for a milk intolerance. I read on an article that this has happened with some other people with the same brand of yogurt. My son's rash clears up within 15-20 minutes of wiping it completely off of his face. So any suggestions on either how to keep his skin from getting irritated or on a new brand of yogurt that I should try? I really don't want to stop offering yogurt since he loves it!

Re: BLW and YoBaby yogurt

  • you can try another whole milk yogurt, We give DS Liberte Mediterranian. They sell it at our local grocery near the greek yogurts. He loves it!

I will tell you though that we tried yobaby when DS was about 8 or 9mo and he got bad diarrhea from it, so we help off on yogurt until recently (he did fine with cheese though)

  • Stoneyfield makes plain, whole milk yogurt, too. I just mix in my own fruit.
  • trader joes has a fantastic whole milk yogurt!

  • We had the same thing happen with YoBaby.  That stuff's loaded with sugar, too.

I switched to organic, full fat greek yogurt with our own veggie puree and fruit mixed in.  I haven't had an issue since, and It's thicker too so easier to self-feed with.

  • We had something similar with my son and it did turn out to be a milk allergy (a very mild one but seen where milk/cheese/yogurt touched his skin).  He grew out of it by a year but I wouldn't take a milk allergy off the diagnosis list yet.

  • My LO's skin gets red and mildly irritated when she gets any food on her face. It clears up in a similar time frame. Maybe our babies just have sensitive skin? If that is the only food that causes your baby's skin to react, though, I'd try another brand or hold off on yogurt for a little bit.
