Rocking a maternity bikini?

DH and I are planning a week at the beach in March. I am thinking about getting this Prego Dot bikini and a Pea in the Pod cover up. Am I crazy? I don't have the perfect body but I do like my belly - at least now. And I figure I can keep the cover up on most of the time. I don't want to fee like a frumpy whale at the beach! But I also don't want to scare people. WDYT? Should I wear a muumuu?

Re: Rocking a maternity bikini?

  • I wonder what the difference is between a regular bikini and a maternity bikini.  I don't see how they would be built very differently.

I would rock a maternity bikini, especially with my first since I didn't have stretch marks until the end with him.  I wouldn't get a specific cover up but maybe wear a sundress when I'm not in the water (similar to what I do now). I even saw a few women with them at the pool and I thought they were cute.  You should do what you're comfortable with.

I think the bottom piece is thicker and different shaped.

Thanks. When we were on vacation in Hawaii I saw several pregnant women at the beach. They looked so amazing, it was beautiful. It was also a little weird to see, only because I had never seen it before.

  • I say go for it.  If you like your belly and feel confident then why not.  I just got back from Cuba.  I wore a bikini at 20 weeks, and felt great.  I would again if I could be on a beach somewhere.

  • I say rock it!!!   A word of warning though- my friend had a pic on her facebook of her in hawaii w/ a bikini while pregnant and all of us friends told her how cute she looked, and she said there was one rude lady that made her all self conscious- anyone who would say anything is a moron  and that's what you need to know!
  • I wore a bikini most of the summer when I was pregnant with my son, but I didn't buy any new ones.  I just wore my old ones, but I was lucky that my boobs or butt didn't grow as quickly as my stomach!

This is my rocking my bikini at 7 months.

  • I say rock it!  I would if I were going to the beach before May!  And besides, I think a one piece would be really uncomfy!  The suit is cute too!

  • NO muumuu's!!!

With DS1 I wore my bikini and loved it- I will with this one too!

  • Do it!

Never a better time to feel good about your body :)

  • I would definitely rock a bikini if I were you!

I'm going to Cozumel when I'm 19 weeks and I'll be wearing my regular bikinis. I figured my stomach should still look cute by then. When summer comes around in Minnesota, I'll probably look like a beached whale.

  • Go for it!! I live near the beach and was VERY pregnant in the summertime while pregnant with my DD. I wore a bikini and proudly, even though I was so big! I got one "oh my god" comment from an older lady, but otherwise, I got a lot of friendly people smiling at me and/or asking when I was due :)

  • where whatever you feel comfortable in,and I'm sure you'll look great. I am kinda happy I don't have to wear a swimsuit anytime soon, I'm so pale!

  • That is an ADORABLE bikini!  I would TOTALLY wear it if I had a good bikini body, but I don't.  I haven't worn a bikini since high school.  :(  I'm totally fine with my upper body, but my butt, hips and thighs are a different story.  I need to cover those suckers up, so sadly I wear skirts or swim shorts.

  • I wore my regular bikini through my whole pregnancy with DD... I just had to buy a large top and bottom instead of medium Wink

  • I would totally do the bikini!  Though, I'm not sure what the difference is between a regular bikini and a maternity one.  I just bought a size up and skipped the maternity suits.

  • I did wear a bikini all the way up to the day before I delivered, which was past my due date!  I think if you feel good, you'll look good.  I never felt that good in the maternity tankini so I switched back to a bikini after only a couple of times wearing it.  Assuming I don't get stretch marks with this one either, I'm going to wear one this time the whole way through as well, including a beach trip for a week to Florida.

  • And I should say that I just wore my regular swimsuit - not a maternity one.  And I covered up just like I do when I'm not pregnant.  Sometimes a coverup, sometimes just a skirt or shorts, whatever I'm feeling.

  • I just got back from Mexico.  I can still fit into my regular bikinis but my belly is a little bloated so I wore shorts with it so that my little belly pooch was covered.  Also a takini is a great option if you want a little more coverage.

I hate one-piece bathing suits!  So uncomfortable and difficult to take off when they are wet.

I say do it! As long as your comfortable and use sunblock,  you should be great!

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!
