Bringing BM to daycare

My LO will be going to an in home daycare and I was wondering how I should bring her BM.  Should I bring it in the bags and have bottles or fill the bottles at home and bring them like that.  Also, does it make the most sense to bring BM that I pump from the day before rather than bringing frozen milk?  TIA

Re: Bringing BM to daycare

  • Here is what I do.  Each day I bring a plastic baggie with 4 bottles in it.  He usually only takes 3 while there, but I like to have the extra one there just in case.  I thaw milk on Sunday for the Monday bottles and the rest of the week I just use what was pumped the day before.  Technically I wouldn't have to use frozen on Mondays.  Friday's milk would be fine, but I want to rotate the stash.

  • I brought milk from the day before rather than frozen just in case he didn't take the milk or use it all while there.

I would just send it in bottles as it was easier for DCP.

Thats a good idea.  So do you let the daycare person clean the bottles then?  My sitter said I could just buy the bottles I want to use and leave them with her and she would wash them.  My mom feels like I should clean the bottles so I know they were washed properly.  I feel pretty confident that the woman I am trusting with my child will clean them, but should I clean them anyway?

She rinses and puts them back in the baggie.  I take them all home and wash them myself at night.  I guess I would rather do that than leave a set of bottles there, but that is just me.

  • My girls go to a day care center. I leave one bottle there and they wash it for me. I trust them they wash it good. With my oldest I just took milk in storage bags. but with my youngest use the bottle containers to store my milk in that I gave them and they would pour the milk into the bottle.  This saved me so many storage bags and they would wash the containers for me too.  I would give them the milk I pumped that day at work( i would actually give them the milk when i picked her up from daycare).  I did ask them how they wanted the milk and they did not care. I personally would hate to have to take 4 bottles each morning and wash them everynight.  I dont even have enough bottles to be able to do that.

This is exactly what I do, too.  Sometimes I use Friday's milk on Monday's, but I'm trying to remember to thaw the frozen milk - I have milk in there from November and I want to get it out of there!

I also take the bottles home at night.  Mostly so I can fill them back up again.  My DC rinses the bottles.

  • I bring prepared bottles in every day, a mix of fresh and frozen milk. I bring home the empty bottles and wash them at night. Our center doesn't wash them, but if they did, I think I would trust them to do so.
