Almost everyone is saying oh my God I can't believe you know when, blah blah blah..if you go to the Baby Shower forum almost everyone in there knows or is even involved in the planning of it. Is it a Philly/NJ thing to be a surprise?
I knew about both of mine, but every other I've been to was a "surprise" -- I'm convinced the mom-to-be knew she was having it, but she pretended to be surprised.
I helped set up both of my showers & was already there when people arrived.
I can honestly say i was surprised for my bridal shower until i arrived and notice cars of my friends in the parking lot. However, with my baby shower...i didn't want to be surprised per se....you never know how you are going to feel etc or you may be on bedrest. So I just told them the latest i would want to have/potential range of dates. With the iffie winter weather (well not this year)...my shower is march--4 wks before i'm due. Not my first choice but Feb can be tough. I don't know where it is yet...although i was mailed an invite...i purposely didn't open it. I'll learn that morning.
I knew about my bridal shower but acted surprised for my baby shower my sister asked me if I wanted to know and I said yes. She and I both agreed when you're overly pregnant you don't want to shlep into someone's house or a restaurant looking less than best at that point...especially when there are going to be cameras and tons of people. Besides, everyone knows you know you're going to have a shower.

I know the place and date of mine. The cake/decorations etc will be a surprise to me.
My bridal shower was a surprise and I spent the whole time shaking and trying not to throw up the little food I ate. I'm extremely shy and it's hard for me to be in front of a large group of people as the center of attention. I figured if I am there to greet my baby shower guests as they come in, instead of walking into a room of people screaming surprise, it'll be easier on me and I can enjoy myself more.
In answer to your question, yes, a lot of people are giving me flack for it.
I actually think its sort of weird to not know about your baby shower. I completely understand not knowing about your bridal shower & my girlfriends were very serious about not letting me know a thing about it. Pretty much all my gf's bridal showers were surprises, but so far all of my gf's baby showers haven't been surprises. I definitely will want to know about mine. Plus I think I'd want to put some input into it too ya know? Good luck with all that, sorry people are giving you a hard time, but I don't think its a Jersey thing. Hope your shower is everything you dream it to be :-)
