Breastfeeding

Busty ladies please come in..

I have 38DDs now, and I was wondering if I'll always have to hold my breasts to feed him? I usually nurse him in the cross-cradle position during the day and lying down at night. If I don't hold them, they squish his nose and he can't breathe.. is there anything I can do to make this better? A different position or something? TIA!

Re: Busty ladies please come in..

  • I have larger breasts then you and I hold my breast,,, it's annoying for sure. At a le leche league meeting they suggested practicing in a mirror not holding your breast... They also said the more comfortable u get with bfing the easier it will be to not have to hold... So in time. Ooo and someone also suggested putting a rolled up wash cloth under your breast to support it more.. I honestly haven't tried any of this yet tho

  • I am up to 38GG now! LOL It gets easier. Eventually you and the baby will get used to it and you can go hands free.

  • I tuck his arm under the breast which boosts it up a bit and keeps him from punching me.  It works pretty well

Mine always punches me! And sometime he even grabs my nipple! :( I'm going to try this.

  • I am a 34 J and sometimes I still hold mine.  My niece asked me once, "Why are you....touching....you?"  I used to nurse with a boppy, if the glider, so I'd rest the boppy on the arms of the glider and then rest my boobs on the boppy...that worked well!  Now LO is too big for the boppy.  I do the cradle hold mostly and tuck her under like PP said.

  • 32E and I've never held.
  • I am a 36DD and hold my breast. I am hoping that as I get more comfortable I won't need to!

  • Something else to keep in mind - I'm a 36G right now, and I was very concerned about doing hands free for the same reason.  The LCs at the hospital kept trying to get me to drop my breast and I told them I didn't think he could breathe if I did.  One of them told me that the reason babies have such wide, flat noses is for survival.  They can breathe out of them even when they're smushed because of the position of the nostrils.

  • 40G. I hold it almost all the time because I find DS latches better that way. It doesn't really bother me.

  • I actually use a rolled up burp cloth (gerber cloth diaper type) and it works great. We have been doing this since she was a newborn.
