What are you guys sending to pre-school as valentines??
DS is 3 and has over 20 classmates. I thought of just doing cards but would like to have some fun creating something crafty but easy with him on the weekend. Most ideas I found are geared towards older kids (no-way can he cut a paper in a heart shape).
I really like these "melted-crayon-hearts" and may do them.
Re: Valentine craft ideas
Ok, I definitely think I'll do this with him now that I found dinosaur molds (way better than hearts!):

But I'm still looking for other craft ideas as well.
I'm definitely with you! I have a full teaching load (I teach MBAs) plus a 5 months old - hence I liked these crayon molds. I foresee spending 10 minutes max on them (and looking for similarly easy stuff).
If you tackle the crayon molds, make sure you get crayons with wrappers that are easy to peel. I made three crayon molds for my toddler during Christmas, and it took much longer than 10 minutes to peel the wrappers off his Crayola crayons since they now glue the entire wrapper to the crayon. I definitely don't remember it being so difficult to get the wrappers off when I was a kid!
We did heart shaped crayons last year and liked the project. The hardest part is getting all of the wrappers off the crayons. The crayons were too hard for DD to break more than a few of, so her main involvement was taking the small pieces and putting them in the pan.
This year we're going to do simple Phineas and Ferb valentines with temp tattoos, but we also signed up to bring cookies in for the party. I'm going to have DD help me use a cookie cutter to do a "cheat" heart cookie. We're getting Oreo cakesters and will cut out a heart from each one. I haven't decided whether we're going to roll the edges in any colored sugar or sprinkles.
Do you have a pinterest account? There are several good ideas I've pulled from pinterest but don't know if I'll get to many this year.
I don't. I should, hm... I like your "cheat" cookie idea though.
I did crayon hearts with photo cards
I used crayolas, but I used a knife to to slice the wrappers open and peel them off. I had to make 25 and used a box of 96 crayons.
I also now have a silicon pan only for melting crayons as I can't seem to get the ring of crayon off the mold :
