How long did you do your pp bathroom routine?

Do you still do your post-partum bathroom routine of the peri bottle, pat dry, dermoplast, tucks, fem-pad, or whatever else? I am still doing all of the above except the tucks. I was wondering if this is something I need to do until my 6 week appt or whenever I feel better. I am paranoid of not healing properly/infection.

  • I stopped with the tucks/witch hazel/etc after about 10 days when it didn't hurt to sit anymore. I still wear a thin pad for the bleeding and use the peri bottle (I have stitches from an episiotomy and an internal tear) and pat dry.

  • I saw my doctor at 1.5 weeks pp and she told me to keep doing it. I see her again in two weeks. My tears were pretty bad, so I may be an exception to the norm.

  • 4 weeks or so for the bottle.... Until it felt mostly healed.

  • I used the bottle maybe 3 weeks?  I stopped the dermoplast after about 1.5 weeks or so, and I hadn't been using it each time anyway.  I stopped changing/wearing pads when the bleeding stopped around 3.5 weeks.

  • I stopped as soon as I felt like I wasn't feeling much pain, which wasn't long after I was home. I did use the Dermaplast here and there when I was healing, but I skipped the res of the routine. I'm still wearing pantiliners about 5 weeks PP, though.

  • Although I'm still a bit sore down there, I stopped pat drying after a week.  I still use the sitz bath every other day, and I confine myself to sitting on the softest part of the couch.  It just got hard to maintain the cleanup routine when DH went back to work and I was in the bathroom with an infant in my arms.

  • My hospital only gave me a peri bottle, but I didn't have any damage to heal. I stopped using it after 1day because I forgot to bring it home with me. Oops.

ETA I started only using a panty liner after 6 days when the bleeding slowed down, and I just stopped wearing those this week because it finally stopped.

  • Thanks for asking this OP, I was just wondering the same thing! I'm just over 2 weeks pp and still using the peri bottle and pads.

  • I'm 15 days pp and Im still using my peri bottle almost every time I use the bathroom. I stopped using the tucks about 5-6 days pp. I use dermaplast as needed. Im still using maxi pads because my bleeding is unpredictable. It goes from light to medium w/out notice. I'm hoping it slows in the next few days.

  • Only while it still hurt.  So I stopped the peri bottle about 10-14 days pp.  I took baths once a day for about 2 weeks also.  I still wear a pad b/c i have occassional discharge but I'm excited that I should be getting to the end of that as well!

  • 18 days PP here and still using peri bottle each time I use the bathroom. Using Always long overnight maxi pads instead of the huge ones from the hospital. Unfortunately still having a lot of bleeding, sometimes pretty heavy. Using tucks occasionally if I am feeling sore and trying to do Sitz bath at least every other day.

  • I used the peri bottle and patted myself dry for about a week. I only needed to use the tucks for a few days, maybe a week. I'm still wearing pads but I could probably switch to liners as the bleeding is really faint/light now. I didn't tear or have stitches, so I'm not feeling too bad down there.

  • I had very minimal tearing and she put in a stitch just to be sure so I was done with the squirt bottle and all that within a week. I just use normal pads now and could probably actually use "light days" during the day but I just prefer to be on the safe side. I stopped with the tucks within 4 or 5 days and if I never smell witch hazel again I will be very happy.
