Can you guys who have been through it give me some advice? I'm sorry to say I haven't paid much attention to the posts I've seen about it and about GD, because I (stupidly) somehow didn't think it would be an issue for me. But because of my age + height/weight (BMI), they're making me do an early test by the end of next week. I know the drink is disgustingly sweet (will it help if I drink it through a straw?) and that it can be a good idea to not eat anything beforehand, or at least nothing sugary so that your body is processing the sugar in the drink, not extra sugar on top of that. I also read something about walking around during the hour and also making sure to have some food along for right after. Is there anything else I need to know? I read something about it making some people feel really sick and awful, and I think I will make DH go with me so that he can drive me home if I puke afterwards, etc. I've had a colonoscopy and I can't imagine drinking anything much worse than that, so I'm hoping this will be a little better. Is the drink at least chilled?
I hate that even having to do this is making me feel like I'm obese or something, which I'm not. I've got a naturally stocky build and yes, lately I've weighed a little more than I'd like (and I've also gained about 7 lbs since I got pregnant, which is probably not great, a combo of working out less and letting myself eat a little more), but this makes me feel bad. Anyone else?

The drink isn't bad it's like Sunkist on steroids. I do have GD and I'm not a heavy girl normally (size 6 pre-pregnancy). I control it well with eating (high protein, low carb diet, basically pile your plate with meat and veggies and very little carb).
It's not hard to follow the diet if you do have GD, it's actually a good diet for the baby because of the high protein/veggie content with less "empty carb" calories. Also, have heard it can be easier to loose weight after if you eat like this!
You cannot unfortunately fool the test though, if you have GD it will show up (I failed my test very minimally but still failed). I think I was told not to eat after midnight before that test.
edited to add: I most likely have it because I am pregnant with twins and there are two placentas (higher chance of GD with multiples), also my dad is type 2, and I'm hypyoglycemic which I think can be a pre-diabetic condition so I knew I had "issues" with sugars for years
