Best baby carrier for breastfeeding in?

Hello, ladies!

I'm wondering which baby carrier is the easiest to breastfeed in.  I already have a Moby, but never breastfed DS in it - just wore him.  I would like to be able to wear this new baby while breastfeeding him since it seems like it would be so convenient, especially with already chasing a toddler around (also grocery shopping while still being able to nurse while walking around would be AWESOME!).  Would the Moby be the best option for this or is there another wrap/carrier that would be easier/more convenient?  I was wondering if a ring sling would be better since I could also use the extra fabric from the end of the sling to cover up while nursing, but I'm not sure.

Another thing, the wrap/carrier would have to be super breathable and cool since LO will be arriving at the beginning of summer here in So Cal and it gets HOT!  Lol :P

Also, any tips/advice on nursing while having baby in a carrier would be greatly appreciated - thanks, ladies! :)

  • I thought the moby would be easiest for breastfeeding, but I never got the hang of it.  I can breastfeed in my mei-tai though, which is what I usually wear out anywhere.

  • It all comes down to what works best for you and your baby and your unique styles, and what kind of learning curve you are up for. I adore nursing in a wrap. I can do it in a ring sling or MT, but not as hands-free as I can in a wrap.
  • Wrap do us. But that was my carrier of choice so that could have something to do wih it.

  • I am now thinking it is baby's decision.   DD1 nursed like a champ however I threw her on in a pouch or ring sling, we occasionally nursed in a wrap but it was my carrier for longer hikes.  DD2 cannot nurse in a pouch and today we nursed in a ring sling which was better -- she sticks her legs out like boards!  I think the ring sling is going to be out answer (though it killed my shoulder w/ DD1 by 9mo). I'll be honest and around the house w/ both of them I did/do just hold them one armed in cross cradle and go about my business whether it is unpacking groceries, helping DD1 onto the potty or whatever.

  • Hmmm...thanks, ladies :)  Looks like I might just have to convince DH to buy me a ring sling and a Mei Tai so I can try them all out around the house and see which on works best :P
