My doctor deliverys at both hospitals, my husband and I took a tour of both places but I'm still stuck on which to pick. So I would like to hear personal experiences of people that have delivered and their experiences.
I didnt deliver at either, however I have a friend whose now ex-wife delivered at Ridgeview Waconia and they enjoyed their experience there. He said that he would recommend it.

I think there is a post about this a little furthur down too. I delivered at Ridgeview in Waconia, with DS in 12/09 and DD 11/11. Hade a great experience both times. Great staff. Did follow up with LC's both time, really needed it with DD has she didn't get the sucking motion down and was losing weight. It's a newer birthing area and looks very nice too!
I delivered at Southdale and the nurses were wonderful! I will not be going there again because we moved a little bit further out, but I would go there again if it wasn't so far away.
I delivered at Ridgeview Waconia, 10/11, and had a great experience. The rooms are nice and spacious and the staff was wonderful. I ended up needing an emergency c-section and my little guy had to spend 4 days in NICU and while I don't think I'll every say that a stay at the hospital or that having a LO in NICU is enjoyable, the staff did what they could to make it as easy as possible on us and always made themselves available to help out or answer questions.
DD was born at Southdale. She was a preemie and spent 3 weeks in the NICU, so we got to know the place very well! Despite her early arrival, I felt like the staff there did an excellent job, both during and after her birth. DD #2 will also be born there.
I delivered both of my kiddos at Ridgeview and had a great experience both times. All of the nurses were wonderful. I had a med-free delivery with my most recent and my labor and delivery nurse was AWESOME...like I don't think I would have made it without her. The lactation consultants are really helpful and very accessible. (my SIL delivered recently at Fairview Southdale and her biggest complaint was access to the LC was very limited).
Ridgeview's birthing center was opened in the past few years and everything is so nice. They have ipod docks and refrigerators in the birthing and PP rooms. Also, every birthing room has its own labor tub.
Do you know what pedi you are going to use? maybe that would help with the decision (their accessibility while you are the hospital).
I chose Waconia. I delivered my 1st daughter at Maple Grove and had a great experience, but their OB isn't in my insurance network any longer. Which is why I now chose OBGYN West.
We toured both and both of us liked Waconia better. I've been to Southdale once before a few years ago with Swine Flu & pneumonia, and had a terrible experience with the nurses and doctor there. And as someone in the medical field myself, I was very put off by Southdale. Maybe their birthing & delivery dept is better staffed. But we chose Waconia.
I LOVED delivering at Waconia. I'll be delivering #2 there as well. I'd recommend it to anyone. You have a nurse that's assigned to you each day/night, so it's not a rotation of people coming in & out (other than the cleaning crew, etc.). It was super clean. The only draw back was that there are separate birthing suites and PP suites, but both are really nice.
They're totally supportive of natural birth, too. They have exercise balls and the birthing suites have HUGE tubs for laboring in if you want to go that route.
Showers in the PP suite have a bench if you need to sit down, a huge overhead rain-type shower head and a detachable shower head to clean yourself up.
They have great lactation consultants and I got 3 free weeks consultation (going in for 1-on-1 personal time) for delivering there.

I have this choice too - maybe we have the same dr?
I delivered at Southdale last time and plan to deliver there again - I didn't have any issues.

Thanks for all your feedback, sounds like either would be a good choice!
My pedi goes to both hospitals so that doesn't help narrow it down either!
I just posted about this about a month ago.
I go to OBGYN West, my doctor is Dr. Teigen.
