Eating Healthy Veggies While Breastfeeding

I was just wondering what veggies people eat while breastfeeding that don't make LO really gassy?  It seems like so many of them cause gassiness, so I'm at a bit of a loss.  I'm really trying to eat healthy and get back on track with my diet and such (doing WW to lose weight).  It also turns out DS is just a really gassy baby on top of this so we use gas drops to help and I'm wondering if I should just stop worrying and go back to enjoying those veggies that I had banned from my diet (broccoli, brusselsprouts, etc.).

I'll also post this on the Breastfeeding board as well, but any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would really be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Eating Healthy Veggies While Breastfeeding

  • I eat a little bit of everything veggie-wise.  I try to limit certain veggies (like beans, broccoli, and cabbage) because I know it makes LO gassy, but I haven't cut them out completely.  Most of the time I eat spinach, carrots, tomatoes, celery, sweet potatoes/squash, and avocado and LO seems to do pretty well.  When I asked the lactation consultant in the hospital about foods to avoid while BF, she said there really isn't a list that she gives mothers any more...she just said to avoid a lot of alcohol (a drink is ok a few hours before a feeding).  You can try adding back in different veggies and observe LO to see how he does.  HTH :)

  • I think I might try adding in just a bit here and there.

  • It is more or less try and see. I have been eating a lot of squash and zucchini. No green beans or anything that is green.
