Line dry vs machine?

I have a bunch of fitteds (GM workhouse and kissaluvs) - do I have to line dry them?

Basically anything with PUL or a plastic-y water barrier should be line dried, right? ( I have a bunch of thirties covers, etc. for the 1st phase )

Also, I was planning on using IKEA PRESSA HANG DRYERS for anything that can't take the heat. Anyone have a better idea?

  • I would follow the manufacturer's instructions.  We got a fold-up drying rack from Lowe's that works just fine!

  • Unless I can sun, I always dry things that don't have PUL in the dryer. I also use the pressa hangers, and love them. In fact I actually have two of them. They work really well to sun with too. I hang everything up inside then just carry outside to put in a sunny spot.

  • I line dry everything with pul, and it's really no big deal. I also use the pressa, and love that thing. The covers take much less time to dry than I thought they would, usually less than half a day.

  • i put them in the dryer from october-april when we don't get any sun :) i just try to stick to like 10-15 minutes. for the first year, i put them in for a full cycle with all the inserts. they began to show their age after a while.. but they're still fine so i don't think drying is the end of the world.

  • I got a fold up rack from Target that works great, but I am sure the Ikea one would work well also.  I hang dry covers and pocket shells.  The only thing with PUL that I do stick in the dryer is AIO's.  I'm not patient enough to line dry those, and I hate the crunchiness that comes with line drying.

I dry on low for an 80 minute cycle with 6 wool dryer balls.  When I was using fitteds, I put them in the dryer.  At the beginning I was drying on high and line drying nothing....then I was reading posts around here, so that's when I changed my routine.  The drying that I did do did not ruin anything.

  • I line dry anything with PUL and throw prefolds and fitteds in the dryer. I use a drying rack I got at Bed Bath and Beyond.
