not mine.
a student in my HypnoBirthing class just found out (at about 7 months) that she's having twins! holy cow!!!
i've had FTMs, BTDTMs, VBAC moms, hospital birthers, home birthers, birth center birthers, but this is my first mom of multiples!
i'm super excited for them, but feeling a little pressure to help them have the birth they wish for (unmedicated home birth).
wheeeeee!
Re: TWINS!!!
they do have a MW and i adore her (she was my MW). i do plan to chat with her...she is also a certified HypnoBirthing practitioner and labor companion, in addition to being a kickas$ MW, so she will be very knowledgeable about what they are doing.
it's also #2 and #3 for them, and they had an unmedicated BC birth for #1, so they know the deal. but it's their first HypnoBirthing.
You should not write a post with this title unless the twins are yours.
But in all seriousness, I wish your client the best of luck! I didn't think many MWs were willing to do twin homebirths. Do they require both babies to be head-down?
this particular MW has a great deal of experience with multiples as well as breech births. this particular mama is BTDT, and both babies are vertex and at this stage (30ish weeks), likely to stay that way, so it's not really an issue.
in the event that baby B was breech, mama can either birth breech, or sometimes a MW will manually turn baby B for an easier birth.
My thoughts exactly. This would be totally wild to find out so late in the game and then to attempt a homebirth on top of it...whew! Good for them and good luck!
what an exciting opportunity for you!
but how did she not find out until 7mo?? I thought the 20w U/S is required by all insurance companies!
Wow, what a surprise! How exciting.
Not true.
-Unless something is prescribed by law (like the PKU), parents can decline. I guess it isn't even a "decline" it is more like choosing not to "opt in". My MW encourages the anatomy scan, but she said they certainly encounter families who do not get ultrasounds.
-I don't even think that all insurance plans cover an anatomy scan unless there is a risk factor that warrants it medically necessary
-Not all prenatal care is done through insurance. Many people are uninsured or elect to pay OOP for care. (We are paying OOP for this PG because my insurance's options are not a fit for us.)
