I've wanted to take some type of self defense or MMA type training for a long time. I think I'd benefit from actually getting to hit some things and take out my frustrations physically too DH has agreed to let me take classes, but I have no clue where to start.
I've done kickboxing before and while I loved it, I really want to do something that's more physical. I swear I'm not violent, haha! I found a gym I'd *love* to go to, but it's off of William Cannon and I'm in RR, which isn't exactly practical (I m p a c t MMA Fitness).
Anyone have experience with this that could lead me in the right direction?
Re: Anyone take self defense/MMA/"I can hit stuff!" classes?
I took a Krav Maga class a few years ago, and I was not in good shape at the time. I thought it was a good workout, but also really good self-defense training. And I maintain that thinking despite accidentally punching myself in the face during one class.
(To be fair, I was holding a pad incorrectly, and my class partner followed direction, punching the pad. My fist (holding the pad) then slammed into my face. Ahh, good times.) The location I went to was down south, maybe on Brodie or William Cannon? I can't remember exactly now, but they have locations all over.
I also took a couple of sessions of an informal boxing class (through ACC, I think) at Lord's Gym. The class was awesome, but it was summer and I could not take the lack of air conditioning. See also: why I can never do hot yoga.

Thank you guys for the recs! I don't really care what discipline (style?) of fighting it is - I really just want to learn how to punch/kick/etc. correctly and how to defend myself if God forbid, I ever needed to.
I'd love to know the name of your DH's gym up north, collennor!
That's a great idea about checking out ACC too! I could totally do a summer class - and I think it would be heavenly to have somewhere I had to be, by myself, regularly each week! Thanks!!
