A one-time Romania maid had no luck convincing her young daughter not to follow in her footsteps and get pregnant way, way too early. So now mom-of-two Rifca Stanescu, who had her first baby at the age of 12, is already a grandma at the age of 23. Yep. Her daughter, Maria, got pregnant at 11, reports the Sun. "I am happy to be a grandmother but wished more for Maria," said granny Rifca as she cradled her new grandson. Rifca married her 13-year-old husband at the age of 11. Her daughter wed at 10.

    Aside from the sheer sadness of the story itself, it makes me cringe to think of what pregnancy and labor do to an 11 year old's body.

    Its sad that kids that young know what that is. I yell at my SIL whos 15 for mentioning things like that. I like to think I will be able to talk to my daughter about those things before it happends. Im afraid that may not be the case though...I cant believe some of the things kids say and do now a days

    My mom made some comment the other day about me having sex at 14 (when I started having boyfriends). Uhh I don't know what she *thinks* I was up to but that sure wasn't it! Maybe our kids will be better than what we expect as well.

    Wow.  That is sad.  I can't imagine.  My husband keeps telling me our DD will be sent to an all girls school and he will arrange a marriage for her when she is 40.  LOL.  I am pretty sure my parents said the same thing.

    Barbie player here, too.  LOL.  This story just freaks me out.  Sadly though (as a Social Worker who worked with teens) I can tell you that 11 and 12 year olds ARE thinking about sex and doing it.  Some of them just do it in the back door, though, so they are still virgins.  I am dead serious.  OMG, right!?

    Thats so sad.  I was in 8th grade when a 7th grader was pregnant.  Her bf was an 8th grader.  Could you imagine being 30 and already having a 17 year old?  Hell, I am 29 and I only have a 2 1/2 mos old.

    Same here. I couldn't imagine sex at 11. My cousin,however, got pregnant at 14 and had her daughter when she turned 15. Her daughter is now 11, and looks like she's going to be heading down the same road. It's very sad to see.

    Screw that crap, I'm 23, I just became a mother, I wouldn't want any part of being a grandmother. But more seriously, we have a 12 year old daughter (my DH's previous marriage, I know, I'm not even old enough for her to be mine) and I cringe at the thought of her even thinking about any of this.

    I teach 4th graders at an inner-city high poverty school. At 10 some of them are still playing Barbie and others are mini-teenagers. Unfortunately I really don't find this story that surprising. In fact I personally know a grandmother who is 32. She's the mom of one of my students from last year (the student's older sister just had a baby).
