non clicky poll-has your baby been sick yet?

Has your baby been sick yet? If so, how many times?

Are they in daycare?

Is your baby formula fed or breastfed?

...M hasn't been sick yet, and from everything I've read, we've been lucky. Apparently most babies are sick a lot during their first year if they are in daycare. I'm trying to decide if M just has a rocking immune system, or if we are really in for it during the next 9 months :)

Re: non clicky poll-has your baby been sick yet?

  • LO hasn't been sick minus a stopped us nose. . I consider us very lucky because he has been exposed to strep and hand and mouth and we avoided those!

LO is not in day care and is formula fed (with the exception of the first two weeks receiving some BM)

  • No, she has not been sick yet and I don't know how she has dodged it.  She is FF, in daycare and DD#1 and I have been sick a few times since she has been born.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't get what DD#1 and I have right now.  I have been out sick since Wednesday afternoon with a horrible cough and a fever that has peaked at 102.

  • DS hasn't been sick yet, we FF, but my mom watches him.

I have worked in daycares before (3 years while in college) and it seems like they get sick a lot. Normally it's nothing major, just a runny nose. State licensing in Texas requires the teachers to wash their hands and the child's hand before AND after each diaper change, all changing mats have to be sanitized after each child, all cribs, toys, gear, etc has to be washed and sanitized every day.

Your LO probably has a great immune system, but don't be surprised if you see a runny nose when LO starts putting things in their mouth and crawling around more.

  • Not sick yet.

    Not in daycare.

    EBF.

Side note: I haven't been sick since getting pregnant and I'm usually one of those people that catches everything! I'm loving this. I don't know if the change in hormones boosted my immune system or what but I've gone almost a year without a cold which is unheard of for me.

  • LO has a bit of a stuffed up nose right now but it is allergy season (already!!!) and we are all having this crud.  She has been in daycare for 3 weeks.  DD#1 also went to the same in-home daycare and rarely got sick and when she did she got rid of it quickly.  She is still the same way.  Both were/are BF.

  • Yes, he has been sick twice. Once with a minor cold, the second time with RSV. DH and I have been sick 3 times in the same span of time... first with the cold, second with the stomach flu, and 3rd with another cold. We know for a fact he got the RSV from day care because 2 other boys had the same illness...as far as the other flus, those have been going around to pretty much everyone we know so it's hard to blame them on daycare.

He is EBF and in a center full time.

All of this except my LO is in at home daycare with one other little girl.  And now I'm going to go knock on a bunch of wood so I don't get sick! Everytime I say something out loud the next day it happens...Indifferent

  • DS is EBF and not in daycare.

No DS hasn't been sick yet and I am counting my blessings! We have not held back taking him places...he has already flown across the country, been around so many family and friends, and we take him everywhere we want to go. DH and I are sick this week and I am really hoping he doesn't get what we have.

  • Yes my baby has been sick once, it was after his first week in daycare.

    He's in daycare 10 hours a day

    He's EBF

He got over his cold pretty quick.

  • Yes. My daughter came down with a UTI a day after getting her 2 months shots. She is FF and stays with family while my husband and I are at work. The doctors explained it as occuring because her immune system was so busy fighting off those shots that it opened up the gateway for a UTI since she started having very frequent loose stools that would fill up her diaper. I'm scared to death now of going and getting her 4 month shots since I really don't want to spend another 3 days in the hospital :(

  • Yes.  She is fed pumped breastmilk.  She has just a stuffy nose and a cough that has been going on for about a week.  She hasn't been in daycare, but has been around her 11 month old cousin who goes to daycare.

  • Yes, twice since starting daycare but neither time has been a major thing. The first one he ran a fever and was cranky for a day, then this time he has been somewhat congested and sneezing for several days. Actually he passed this one on to me because yesterday I started getting sneeze-y too. Awesome! I'll admit I'm nervous about when he picks up something legitimately un-fun.

  • So far, little girl has had a cough, and now she has the residual cough.

DS1 was sick for the first time at 6 months old...he started nebulizer tx at this time.

DS2 was sick with an ear infection and put on nebulizer tx at 4 months old.

All 3 have been breastfed- DS1 till 6 months, DS2 for one year  and I will bf DD for 1 year.

They have never been in daycare, but the boys are in preschool, starting when they were 2, for 2 mornings a week.

  • LO has not been sick yet (knock on wood!). She has been FF since day 1 and my mom watches her while DH and I are at work. She's been around tons of family and friends (and their babies). Daycare will start March 5th. We planned on starting daycare Feb. 6th but the Dr. said if it's possible for my mom to continue watching her through cold/flu season, then we should do that to be safe.

  • Phin is EBF and in daycare.  He has a stuffy nose and is on amoxocillan (sp) for a "sinus infection" (I use this term loosely because babies don't have sinuses) and an "almost" ear infection.  I figured he got sick because DH got a nasty cold in December/January and then I caught it.  It was hard for us both to avoid baby.

Despite it all, he's happy so it's not that big of a deal for us.

  • D2 has not been sick yet. D1 has thrown up twice and had bronchitis since D2 has been born and DH had a mean stomach bug which I got also but much less severe.

D1 was born in early spring but she didn't get sick until she was a good 6+ months old and had been in daycare for a while. I'm hoping for a repeat!!

  • Yes - he had a cold a few weeks ago.  I had bronchitis, so I'm just glad he only had a cold.

Baby is FF - was BF for 5 weeks.

     He starts daycare next week.

  • LO was sick with a cold around Christmastime. He was around 10 weeks old then.

He has not been in daycare yet. He picked up the cold from DH, who brought it home from a get-together with friends. One of the guys there was sneezing and coughing the whole time -- ugh!

    LO is EBF.

  • LO has not been sick yet! Fingers crossed! he is EBF and has not been to a daycare yet.
  • Interesting thread. I was curious about this too.

LO is FF and not in daycare. She has never been sick (knock on wood!)

My step kids have been over 3/4 times sick since shes been born. And thankfully she hasn't caught anything.

  • My DS has been sick once, but we aren't in daycare.  Daddy brought something home form work
  • DD hasn't been sick. She isn't in daycare. She was BF with formula supplement and now just formula.

  • He hasn't been sick yet.  He was in daycare with 3 other kids and is about 70% bf, 30% ff.  He's switching daycares though and will now be in a home with a 4 year old every other week.
