Does anyone know where to buy maternity ACUs? I'm in a weird situation because I work for the Navy but I'm active duty Army and don't live all that close to an Army base. I did actually drive to the closest Army base today to see if they had any and they had pants in size 6 and 8 and a shirt in 20. And that was it! Clearly not gonna work. They said they could order them but seeing as how they were out of stock of regular ACUs as well and said they had been waiting to get them in for 2 months and it's so inconvenient for me to go there, I figured I could get them from aafes.com and the saleswoman at the store (after insulting my intelligence by saying "you know you're going to get bigger") assured me I could get them online, I went to aafes.com tonight and there's not a single maternity acu to be found. I really can't wear the non-acu uniform in my current work environment and I don't know what to do. I'm sure I'm not the first pregnant officer to ever try to buy a maternity uniform here but I have no clue what to do. I have a little time because I'm not showing yet but I couldn't really even buy a bigger regular uniform because they were out of them too and this baby bloat is making the pants pretty uncomfortable already. Help!!!
Re: Maternity ACUs
My husband says CIF (Central Issue Facility) at any army post should issue you whatever you need. I have no idea though the only thing I can do is ask him, hope that helps. OH! Did you get a "purple book"? I know that there is a section on maternity clothing for active duty ladies...and that's all I got. There's a link to the book I'm referring to;
https://www.crdamc.amedd.army.mil/whc/pregnancychildbirth.pdf
I got mine from CIF as well.
I know everyone is different but I held out as loonngg as possible to get maternity acus. (about 6 months) I just started by loosining up my belt then undoing the top button and keeping the belt on. I had to switch over for good when my top started getting too tight.
Hopefully you can go to a CIF and get them. they SHOULD have them...because I've never seen a maternity uniform in clothing and sales.
That's what it says to do in the purple book link thing that I posted earlier. It's Page 95...
Thanks, ladies, for all the help! I ended up calling Military Clothing and Sales at Fort Sam Houston (where I was stationed up until 6 months ago). They have the pants in stock and will order me the shirt and then mail them both to me. So hopefully that will work out.
The live chat on aafes.com was useless. They tried to tell me the Air Force uniform (ABUs) was the ACUs. Seriously... But it was their idea to call Fort Sam which ended up panning out to success so that was good at least.
I was AD Army. My first pregnancy, I was in maternity ACUs at 16 weeks. My regular top fit perfectly fine, but my regular pants were starting to get really snug around the middle. Trust me - I felt pretty stupid walking around relatively flat-stomached in maternity ACUs. I didn't really pop until I was 21 weeks.
This pregnancy, though (took a Chapter 8 - I got out on the 1st), I was in maternity ACUs by the third month. I was so ridiculously bloated and preferred to bite the bullet and wear the maternity uniform than go up a size in pants (plus, my wallet liked me more for it). Yeah. My bloating this pregnancy has not been cool, lol.
Do what's comfortable for you - damn the opinion of everyone else. My 1SG would crack a joke here and there - "Jesus, already?!" - but hey, I was comfy and able to breathe and sit down, lol. And I'm like you, a size 8.
Hope that helps! And glad you were able to find a uniform set.
