My doctor didn't ask me whether or not I wanted to do one...she simply sent the paperwork to the hospital, and had them perform the test when I went for my last u/s. I was made aware that the test was coming, but it never occurred to me not to take it. Why would you not want to do it?
We had it with our first two kids. We won't do it this time. It was fine the other times, and the reassurance was nice when everything came back good, but I just don't want to add any potential worry to this pregnancy if we'd get a flukey result. My OB said what so many on here hate to hear said - that if we wouldn't terminate, he thought it was just as good to wait for the 20 week anatomy scan (which would show any issues the NT might find). We wouldn't want to make that choice, so that sealed the deal on skipping it this time around. I wasn't sure that our (crappy) insurance would cover it, anyway, so that also played a part in our decision.

It's covered for me so I'm doing it. I want to see the baby again, honestly. We won't pursue any further testing because we won't terminate. If the scan and blood test come back with an increased risk, we'll know what to possibly prepare for.
We opted out of it last time. Our doctor thought it was a reasonable decision since we were not at higher risk of abnormalities due to age or genetics and we would not terminate either way.
We are going to do it in 2 weeks just because it is 100% covered by our insurance and it will let us see baby again. The results won't change how we feel either way.
We just got it done at our 12 week ultrasound...it wasn't going to affect having this baby regardless, but we did want to be prepared in case of anything. We did the blood with the ultrasound/measurements (some people opt NOT to do the blood portion... but his increases the accuracy to 90% as opposed to the 70% - 80% with just the ultrasound/measurements) ... and we got our results yesterday that our baby has a 1 in greater than 10,000 chance of down syndrome or the other things they tested for (I can't remember the name of the other condition they test for). It was definitely a relief.... and we feel much better - but at the same time it's everyone's personal preference. Do what YOU and future Daddy feel is best for you and don't listen to what everyone else does! Good Luck:)
I am doing it next week. For me, the results would not sway my decision to keep the baby, but I would like to be prepared in the slight chance that there IS anything wrong. Also, for me a Down Syndrome diagnosis would not be life shattering. I used to think it would, but then my niece was born with DS. It really changes your perspective when it affects someone you love. I am not as worried to get the results of this test as I would have been before. It not DS, but the other trisomies that scare me. They are far more severe, but also far more rare - thankfully. Also, if the NT scan comes back normal, it will only help to put my mind at ease. I see no negatives with having this test done. Only more opportunity to be informed.
I am not doing it. I don't think my insurance will cover it, and any results would not cause me to terminate the pregnancy. The few extra weeks of preparation don't seem to be worth the extra money to me.
