January 2012 Moms

so did you poop on the table?

I was certain I would, since it seems like nearly everyone does and I did when I was in labor with DD, twice.

But to my surprise I didn't poop while pushing this time!  I asked DH about an hour after DS was born b/c I really didn't have any idea.  HOWEVER, they broke my water about an hour after I had my epi and when the doctor was checking me before breaking my water the pressure from his hand pushed out the biggest fart, pretty much right into his face.  I didn't know if I should laugh, pretend it didn't happen or apologize!  So all of us in the room just pretended it didn't happen :)

Re: so did you poop on the table?

  • That's hilarious!!  I warned the nurses that I probably would, I was still paranoid about it, even in labour!!  Well, I made it to 10cm, was about to start pushing when Declan pooped on the table.  That's how they discovered he was breech, so I ended up with a c section, so thankfully, no table turds for me :)

  • I don't even know.  I was pushing for less than half an hour, so I'm assuming not.  Plus I had a good BM early in labor, so I'm pretty sure I didn't have it in me to do it on the table.

  • It's hard to believe but after 36hrs of labor and 3 full hrs of pushing I did NOT poop on the table. I was so happy about it as that was one of my fears lol

no and i kinda wish i had....mighta made tat 1st PP BM less miserable
yeah this was by far the downside of not pooping on the table.  I even had to have a suppository to help soften things up in the hospital.  That SUCKED.

  • Yeah, I totally pooped in the tub :(. it was one of the reasons I didn't want a water birth, but my labor happened so fast and frankly I was in so much pain there was no getting out of the tub. The absolute worst part was my husband had to clean it up while the paramedics hauled me away :(
  • I don't think I did. I had 3 bm that day and only pushed for 50 mins. DH said he would vomit if I did. He was joking. I hope.... Lol.

  • I'm pretty sure I did, but I had a rather heavy supper at about 5:30, had baby had 3:30 (so 10 hours later) and didn't poop in between and I remember feeling the nurses wipe my butt (what a wonderful thought....).  I also delieverd on my hands & knees so I don't know if that made a difference?  I didn't poop during baby #1.

  • I asked DH if I did and he said no.  I pushed for 2 hours so I thought for sure I would.  Then I realized that I hadn't eaten for like 30 hours so there was probably nothing to come out.  I think I may have farted a few time though (I pushed very hard after a while I was so over it lol).  No one said anything (which is surprising because DH is quick to point that stuff out.  Guess he felt some pity for me haha).

  • Yep, I did.  The nurse cleaned it up so fast that DH said he didn't even know I had until he saw the nurse cleaning it up.

  • Pretty sure I pooped multiple times. I remember them wiping me a bunch. I honestly didn't care. I also threw up and it was nasty green stomach acid. My husband was telling me they filled a trash can from all the bloody nasty sheets and such. Ewww, labor is nasty business.

  • No, thankfully I did not, especially since I had a water birth. I had a huge BM about 20 hours before he was born and I took castor oil about 3 hours before he was born so anything that was in me had left (and then some, it felt like)!

  • Nope! I was so freaked that I was going to! But I asked DH and my mom if I did and they both said no, even though I was bleeding a lot!

  • Not while I was pushing, but I did have to after they had started the pitocin so I couldn't go to the actual bathroom.  I had to use the plastic toilet in the middle of the room and then the nurse had to empty it.  I was mortified (little did I know how up in my business things would get as the day progressed).

I think I did pee the first time I pushed (I had an epi so I have no idea, but DH thinks I did).

  • nope! I went shortly before pushing started because i could tell if it didnt happen then, it'd be on the table.
  • I did with DS, but not this time. I was so worried about it the first time, but this one went so fast that I didn't even have a chance to think about it. The next day I happily realized that it never happened!

  • Yep, I did...didn't know I did until DH mentioned it later..nope I don't care either...there was so much other stuff to be worried about it didn't cross my mind.
  • Yes I did but I didn't care.  Nothing big, a couple of wipes off and all was said and done.  I think I was more concerned about hair on my backside than I was about pooping.  MH said I apologized to the anesthesiologist about my butt hair.

  • I told the people in the room that I was but they said that I was having a baby and my wife chirped, "You bet I will mention it if you do!"
  • DH said I didn't but man it felt like I was going to!

  • I pooped the day before I went into labor and threw up my lunch an hour after eating it so I was pretty empty. I pushed for 4 hours and Hubby says I didn't really poop,I just had a tiny bit come out and they just needed to wipe my bum off.

I never really farted during labor but I sure did burp a lot.

  • I definitely pooped.  It was actually really funny because I was sitting/squatting on this tiny birthing stool thing and it really felt like I was just taking a giant extremely painful dump the whole time.  So when I pooped (and smelled it) I thought it was hilarious- in between the most painful contractions of my life.  The MW laughed and said it was a good sign that the baby would be here soon.  And a few solid pushes later (after I thought I had pushed out the rest of my insides) my DD arrived.
  • Nope, no pooping for me but it sure felt like I was going to!!
