Two Under 2

2 Diapers bags or just 1?

I was looking at diaper bags yesterday and the one I have for DD hardly fits any of her stuff in there now, I'd like to get a new one  for her because I also hate how it's those magnet type bags, I'd prefer a zipper but I'm wondering if I should get two for each baby if not, which one did you use for both babies?  I often pack like I'll be gone for awhile which is probably why things seem to be tight in DD's bag now.  :)

Re: 2 Diapers bags or just 1?

  • I use one diaper bag for both kids. It's just a basic bag from BRU, something simple that my DH will carry without protest :P I found I didn't really need much extra for two kids, so I saw no need to upgrade to a giant bag or carry two (which would just be obnoxious to carry/keep track of, IMO).

  • I have a few diaper bags but I only carry one at a time. I just got a slightly bigger bag with #2 and it was fine. Once my 2 got a bit older I went back to the smaller bag because I didn't need as much stuff with me. Now I can go out with just a couple diapers and a pack of wipes and a baggie of snacks in my regular purse :) At least for a few more months!

  • Definitely one.  Can you imagine trying to get somewhere with an infant seat, a toddler, and TWO diaper bags?  It's bad enough with one.  I have this one which holds all their stuff and is lightweight (well before I fill it, at least).

I do still keep the old, small bag around in case DH and I are taking them to different places.  Then we each take a bag.

  • Just one bag. I used a small bag the whole time too. I will be getting a new one since the zipper is starting to rip on my current one, which will be slightly bigger, but you will see that you don't need THAT much more room. You'll need less and less for your older child, and you'll learn to pack what you realistically will need. I used to be an over-packer but learned to pare down, and have never run out of anything crucial. Especially if you BF and don't mind doing it in public, you can get away with packing light even for two.

  • Each of my boys has a small bookbag from PBK that we use for church or other places. If it's just me and the boys I just grab one fo their bookbags. When DS2 was smaller I used a juju be BFF bag that I loved. I'll break it out again  once this one comes but right now I don't carry their diapers into places much anymore. I just keep it in the car.

    This.

We have a big one and a small one, depending on what we are doing and how long we'll be gone.  Don't forget that by the time #2 comes along, you will need WAY less stuff for #1 than you do now.  Mine are 16 months apart, and by the time #2 was born, I usually wasn't taking a bag at all for #1 for running around town.

  • I usually just keep most of it in the car. It is VERY difficult to change either of their diapers when we're in public and it's just me, since we don't use a stroller. So I leave the bag in the trunk and just change them right in the trunk with the other one in the car. Then I carry a purse with snacks and a burp cloth into wherever we're going.

  • one large bag and a large tote in the car with extra outfits, diapers, wipes, more formula and water, extra sippy & bottle, socks and sweater for each.

I just can't bring it all and my stuff in one bag.
