XP: A Note on BRU Trade-Ins

I know this might not matter to some people, but it definitely rubs me the wrong way and since I wasn't aware of how BRU handles it's trade-ins I figured others didn't either. I was curious about what happens to the trade-ins. I know plenty are out of date, possibly broken, etc, but I also know plenty of people bring in items that are relatively new (possibly even less than a year old) and in great condition.

BRU throws ALL of these items away. New, old, broken, perfect condition... all of it. I was considering taking an item in until I knew this. The item I have is new and can't be returned so I was going to trade it in. I cannot, in good conscious, do this (if I end up getting rid of it, I'll take it to a consignment shop). I thought maybe they donated the items to a charity or shelter, but no...

So, just thought I'd give you ladies a head's up. I know to some it won't matter and some may already be aware that they throw these items away, but I thought I'd share nonetheless.

    hmm.  yesterday I went to trade-in and I asked them what they do with the old stuff.  The customer service lady told me it goes back to the distribution center to be checked and if it is in good condition and not recalled then it gets donated.

    Too late, already used a high chair as a trade in. Had I known that it would get thrown away, I might still have used it because I got $100 off, and I doubt the high chair was worth that much. But for a cheaper item, I would definitely consider just using their 20% off coupon. That stinks if that is what they do. Still, I am sure they don't want the liability if one of their trade ins causes the serious harm, or worse, of an infant, no matter how underprivileged they may be.

    Everthing I traded in was really old, damaged or recalled.  Nothing that I could, in good conscience, give to someone else.  I was just happy to be able to get something for my old dropside crib with missing hardware.

    If I had something new or in great shape I would either still be using it or trying to sell on craigslist.

    That kind of sucks for things you KNOW are in perfect condition. But it's probably a safety thing. They say even the smallest car accident can cause unseen damage on a carseat, how are they to know that it wasn't involved in an accident?

    How long does this even go until?  I have an expired carseat I wanted to trade in, but forgot when it ends.  I was waiting until after my shower, but now I'm not having one, so I want to go trade in now! 

    If you are trading in a newer or still in good shape item, check with consignments first to see what you can get for it!
