Like mothering classes? I don't really know what type of classes are out there to be honest... I haven't looked into it and I was wondering if any new moms will be taking them.
Do you think you need to take any classes? Just curious i guess.
I don't think i'll be taking any mom classes. I've been asking my mom a bunch of questions and when we finally tell our friends i'll be asking them a bunch of questions.
Re: First time moms, are you thinking of taking an classes?
DH and I went to a childcare class last weekend and I'm really glad we did. If nurses had tried to rush all of that information about caring for the umbilical cord and everything else into our heads while I'm in the hospital, I know I'd be super overwhelmed.
I had never swaddled before and it's been eons since I changed a diaper or gave a baby a bath (my nephew's almost 10) and DH hasn't done any of those things ever.
Again, it was very informative and we're really glad we went.
I'm considering the breastfeeding class and we're definitely going to take a CPR class.
I highly recommend one birthing class for you and your SO so you both know what to expect -- it helped me ot see the various options for pain management, etc. that I had no idea about (and ended up using).
I also suggest if you're planning to breastfeed, take a class. It's not as natural as you may think and there were actual techniques that I learned in that class that helped a ton.

I'm not planning to take a basic baby care class myself, because I've taken care of a lot of small kids from newborn on up. (Big immediate family!) My husband wants to take a new dads class though, which covers baby care, since he's never been around babies.
We're planning on both attending a childbirth class and a breastfeeding class.

This will be #2 for us, so we won't be doing any classes, but I would highly recommend taking some classes if your hospital offers them. We took the birthing class, breastfeeding, and infant care. Of course not all the information was useful, but when you're up in the middle of the night going on hour 2 to get the baby to fall asleep, something useful from a class may pop into your mind. The nursing class was very helpful in showing several nursing positions, the birthing class was great for both dh and I (dh learned how to be helpful during labor, and what not to do). All in all, it was time and $ well spent!
We took the birthing class offered by the hospital- total waste of time. Also I went to a few La Leche League meetings on breastfeeding... it was informative but nothing I couldn't learn online, which I did.
Parenting classes, no.
