Ahhh... this kid is just throwin me for a loop. By 16 weeks w/ DS I was feeling strong kicks, flips etc. This one, not a twinge. Granted I do have an anterior placenta and I know most that have this feel movement later but the OB seemed concerned at my last appointment that I wasn't feeling anything. I've tried caffeine (morning coffee), cold water, soda, chocolate, spicy salsa as far as foods. I've tried laying on one side or flat on my back. Nothin.. We've seen it move on the sonogram so we know it does move. At this point, what else can I do besides wait? I really just want to feel this one moving around so I know its ok considering all the complications I've had.
Re: Lack of movement
I don't think I was feeling a ton of movement around 20 weeks. For me, it was more during third tri when I started feeling movement regularly.
Also, kids can be so different. My first didn't move a lot and my second was practically doing karate in there (and they have proven to have these same personalities outside of the womb). So, it may be that this baby is a little bit less active and then with the anterior placenta, it just makes it so you don't feel as much.
I can identify with how worrisome it can be. I hope you start feeling more movement in the next few weeks so that it will put you at ease.
I don't think I felt movement until 18wks.
And, apparently he was moving constantly I just couldn't really feel him. (he was always flipping around in u/s but i couldn't feel it)
Yeah, I think sometimes they make those comments very casually...not knowing that as a mother, it's easy to obsess compulsively over a little comment like that.
I had this situation too. It never felt like DD was moving much, but whenever they did an ultrasound she was dancing all around.
did you try cold OJ? and then laying on your left side
This is my 3rd and I have an anterior placenta for the first time. It really makes a big difference in when you feel kicks. I was at the 20 week u/s and watching the baby kick and punch and didn't feel it (I think I felt one flutter). It wasn't until around 26 weeks I started to feel consistent fluttering and by 28 weeks I was feeling kicks. That being said, at 32 weeks now, I am still not feeling all day movement like I did with the other 2. It drives me crazy with worry, but I can't do anything about it, so I just try to relax. Easier said than done.
This is the second time I've had an anterior placenta, and it is SO nerve wracking. Honestly, I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but it never got to the level of movement that other people always described. This time I am a little (ha!) more relaxed about it. My OB said that not feeling movement until 24 weeks was pretty normal with AP, then once a day until 28 weeks, then once or so an hour (if you're paying attention) until 34 weeks, then they still request the same kick count (10 in one hour, at a normally active time for baby) after 34 weeks.
I honestly never thought I'd have an AP twice! But, since it isn't an actual "problem" I try to remind myself I'm so lucky. Someone I know also has AP and has an extra thick placenta, she's gone in several times for reassurance that all is okay!
