AW momment

Ok so you all know that I am currently in preschool application hell. Anyway today was Ella's interview day at the Montessori School. Tomorrow she has another meet and greet. We are so not these people but it just happens that the schools around us do this. I never thought I was going to be that mom. So we show up at the school today at 4:15. We go to the gym and it is full of people and a little crazy. E is very social but it takes a bit to warm up. She is not very happy at this point and a teacher comes to take E upstairs to a classroom. The plan is to have her go with the teacher without me but that is not going to happen. So I go with her. The other child that is in our group doesn't want to go alone either which made me feel a little better. Anyway we go upstairs and by that point my child could care less about me and I could have left but they told me to just stay. She is so excited to be in the classroom. Which is so beautiful by the way. She goes and checks out the lizard and then starts to explore. There were six kids in the room and three teachers E was the most engaged child there. She wanted to know what everything was. For the montessori folks she sat down on a rug with the knobbed cylinders (basically a block of wood with holes with cylinders of ascending sizes with knobs in the holes) and took all the cylinders out and then with little difficultly put them all back in. She then sat for a lesson on one of the materials. She also went to a table sat down and did a spooning exercise. Pretty much she rocked it. The other kids were engaged with materials but only when a teacher showed them a material to work with. But the moment this science teacher's heart swooned was when she went up to a shelf and picked up an object and then named it. The object...a student 3-d model of Saturn. My child, you know the one that had 3 fing words last year at this time and was getting an EI evaluation for speech picked up a styrofoam ball painted red with a cardboard ring around it and said PLANET!!!! She then picked up the other planet models and called them planets. She walked across the room went up to a globe and turned to the teacher and said PLANET. The look on my face was priceless I am sure. We do not have a book on planets, I have not taught her about planets, and I sure as hell have never heard her say planet. The teacher looked up at me and could tell from the look on my face that I was shocked she knew that.  Anyway we are through all that we can do I can only complete the financial aid form and hope we get in and get a good financial aid package. gulp. Sorry that was so long had to get it off my chest.
