Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Any suggestions...class during nap time?

We want to sign DS up for a MyGym class, but the only one that we can go to for his age is at 9:15 on Saturday morning.  We had a trial class last weekend, and DS was SOOO cranky because he was ready for a nap.  He normally gets up around 7 and then is ready for a nap around 9.  We really want to take him to this class, but he's not going to enjoy it if he's always tired.  Any suggestions?

  • I think you'd be wasting your money if you signed up for it.  Unless you're able to shift naptimes.

I agree. I would say wait a couple months and by then he'll probably be able to stay awake longer before his first nap. Then it wouldn't be a problem :)

Or you could try waking him up earlier that day and putting him down for a shorter nap earlier, before the class.. but that sounds like too much work for me ;)

We're in the same situation. I really wanted to sign DD up for a Gymboree class but it's right smack in the middle of her nap time! We're going to wait.

  • This same thing happened to us.  We have a baby and play class and the first one he was so cranky by the end.  Last week was our second class and he was just fine.  He did fall asleep before I was even pulling out of the parking lot and slept for 3.5 hours. We are going to stick with it for now.

  • i agree - wait till its not nap time.  i always wonder who plans baby classes - they always fall during nap time!  dont people who work w/ kids know that babies nap at 9 and 1 for the most part?!?!?  yet thats when all the classes are.  oh well.
  • Tough one.  I think babies are more flexible than we give them credit for.  DD has a totally different sleep schedule on the weekend than during the week.  It's hard to say, though.  I'd try it, unless that schedule is something you're committed to.
  • Thanks for all the suggestions!  I don't know what we'll end up doing.  I guess DH and I will talk a little more about it.  WE are so excited about the class, but it's not like DS will know that he's not going.
