$5.5M for birthing a baby that will now need 24hr care for the rest of it's life? The family should have gotten way more than that. Taking care of a person who is unable to care for themselves will cost way more than that over a lifetime.
It's just sad. The only person I feel bad for is that poor baby.
It takes a special amount of bitch to induce menstruation in another person. - LovelyRitaMeterMaid
Wow. How awful is that for the parents. Yes, the doc is partially/mostly at fault and I'm glad she got sued. Yet, I can't help myself....This is why we as the parents need to be informed and do our own research!!!!

Induction was at 39 weeks because the OB was leaving on vacation.
I don't think it was the induction per se that resulted in the birth injuries. I think this had more to do with it:
Because of the patient load, [the OB] was busy with other patients when a cesarean delivery became urgently needed for this baby. Hyperstimulation and fetal heart-rate abnormalities continued for several hours.
Several HOURS? Um, yeah, that'll do it.

I would like to see anyone refute this article, inductions when not medically necessary, are dangerous...sharing with some of my lovely induction happy friends who say that it's totally ok after 37 weeks...yeah OK.
How heartbreaking for the parents. To have a potentially healthy baby have this happen to him is really sad. I'm so glad that I've taken the time to educate myself about some of the possible outcomes of medical interventions like this. Stories like this make me even more determined to have the least amount of intervention possible.

Actually, I would say that the article shows that leaving a woman with uterine hyperstimulation and nonreassuring fetal heart tones to labor for several hours is dangerous.
True, you're more likely to see hyperstimulation and nonreassuring fetal heart tones with an induction. But I don't think the induction alone doomed this baby to this outcome.

Wow, that's horrifying!! Those poor parents must be sick with guilt.
That OBG Management website/journal looks really fascinating. I like how it's a lot of shop talk among OBs.
