Are nightfeedings ever a blur?...

We don't officially bed-share, but it ends up that when C wakes in the middle of the night i move him from his bed next to ours and side-lie feed him and we both fall back to sleep.  Last night i didnt even bother putting him to bed, i just fed him to sleep in our bed at his bed time then later just climbed into bed beside him.  I know i fed him in the middle of the night, but it's just a blur as to what time or how many times...i've gotten ok at just rolling over and popping my boob in his mouth lol...anyone else half asleep thru feedings?  lol....tia!  just wondering....

Re: Are nightfeedings ever a blur?...

  • Yup! We have always bed shared, and night feedings are almost always a blur. When she was a newborn I would try to stay awake, but once I got more comfortable with her being in bed with us I would often have no idea how many times she nursed over night.

Lately though I've been waking up-and staying awake-every time. Last night she nursed from 3-4 am. Boo for me :(

  • Sometimes I wake up and wonder if I fed the baby or not, then I will notice my boob is hanging out and realize she did eat.

  • Yep, that's actually why I stopped letting her sleep in bed with us. I felt that if I wasn't paying that close of attention it was probably a hazard. I'm one of those people who likes to have the blankets up to my chin.
  • YES! this is why I love, love bedsharing! I was getting up and feeling so exhausted and my daughter would wake more and for longer then i switched and I was soooooo happy I could 'doze' while she nursed and having her close made those nursing times shorter. This is why I choose to bedshare! saving 5, 10, or even 30 minutes every-time my daughter awoke made me finally feel rested!

I once woke up with DS in bed and I was nursing him.  I have no recollection of how he got their (he was 3mo I think).

LOL!  I think I've been there lol!

  • There has been many times that DH has asked me how the night went (he could sleep through anything) and I have no idea other than it couldn't have been that bad or I'd probably remember it.  And I didn't bed-share, either!

  • I laughed when I read the title and thought "ever?"  how about alwaysSmile.  One of my favorite cousins and I had our first kids 6 months apart.  I remember her talking about being so tired for middle of the night feeding blah blah blah, and then it was "oh I never fall asleep though!".,  I laughed like crazy and asked her what her secret was?  I was falling asleep more than half the time.  I don't know how old your LO is but when we were in those first few weeks I was basically sleeping sitting up in bed with DS in my arms and I'd only wake up again(sort of) when he's start nursing again.

Ha ha, the only way I figured out LO started sleeping through the night was that I woke up laying the same side I fell asleep on. Usually, when she needs to settle, I flip sides, for feeding and for relief on my joints.

  • Yup, I usually fall half-asleep while feeding her in the middle of the night!
