Parenting after a Loss

What to do with this gift???

Someone bought us this incredibly generous (but impractical) gift for our little one:

https://www.tiffany.ca/Shopping/Item.aspx?fromGrid=1&sku=21428094&mcat=148207&cid=288202&search_params=s+5-p+2-c+288202-r+501323338-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+

What to do with something like this? They're engraved, so they are not going back. Can't use them for eating, really. What would you do?

  • That's a good question.  You're right...that was incredibly generous of them, but I'd be scared to use them.  I have no clue what I would do.

This was my only idea, too. I guess that's what we might do.

I was thinking the same thing, and if you have a place hang them in your kitchen.

  • Add them to a shadow box...put in some booties/socks, maybe a hat. Make them a keepsake that LO will hold onto forever.

  • I think the shadow box would be a great idea. I would be too nervous to use them.

This is a great idea.  I would either find a way to display them, or set them aside somewhere safe and give them to LO later when they will be appreciated.

  • I've always wondered what people do with those Tiffany baby items! I would probably display them on the nursery wall. Although if you're feeling saucy, I guess you could exchange them for pretty jewlery...But they'll make a nice keepsake in the future even if they aren't practical.

  • Ditton PP's on the shaddow box.  Or if you have a memory box for him you can put them in there too.

  • Keep in mind that if you do a shadowbox that you will want to make sure that you don't seal it closed permanently or else you won't be able to polish the spoons once they inevitably tarnish. Maybe a display rack would be a better option? I don't know if they make them for just two spoons, though.

  • Or you can use them for special occasions like Thanksgiving, baby's first bite of food, Christmas, etc.  We have used ours.  If you use silver, it tarnishes less.
