Halo toddler sleep sacks in "comfort mesh" fabric

I'm looking ahead to spring and I'd like to get M a new lightweight sleep sack. I've noticed that the toddler versions by Halo aren't made in cotton. Their lightweight toddler sleep sack is described as "comfort mesh" and it's polyester. There are some negative reviews on amazon saying people didn't like the material. Anyone have one? I can't find the larger sizes in stores, so I'm flying blind here.

  • Oh no! What size are you looking for? This is terrifying news to me b/c my kids are sleep sack addicts. I'm not sure what habit will be harder to break at night--the sleep sack or the paci!

  • I bought one for DD when she was maybe around 2?  She hated it.  Refused to wear it.  I don't blame her.  It is mesh and slippery like basketball shorts.  I saved it and tried to use it on DS as well, and he also hated it.  If I didn't manage to sell it at our garage sale, I would give it to you.  I definitely wouldn't recommend buying one.

My kid loves his, too. He associates it with bedtime, so I don't want to have to give it up! I'm looking at the ones called Big Kid sleep sacks in sizes 2T and up. They only come in fleece or this "comfort mesh." I can't find anything in cotton!

Oh no, this is not good news. Did you just switch to a blanket?

  • I've seen aiden and anais brand sleep sacks that are made from that muslin-like fabric of their swaddling blankets.  they call them sleeping bags and it looks like their XL size is for 18-24 months, 26-36lbs/35-38" long.

  • J definitely has sleep sacks that are cotton in XL, which fits his current size (2T-ish?). They exist. Check Amazon, I think that's where we found ours.

I was going to suggest these as well.  Target carries them in the store so you can look at them to see if they will be the right size and feel the fabric.

My FIL managed to convince T to lay down and sleep under a blanket last year when she was about M's age.  Maybe it worked because it wasn't me or DH trying to get her to do it?  I would have thought she moves around too much at night, but she was content and didn't wake up freezing from the A/C last summer when we started, so it's doiable.

  • I woud suggest skipping them too.  It is a strange gym short type fabric that didn't seem too warm and cozy, and they are bizarrely long.  It has holes for the kid to stick their feet through, but then the fabric pooled at the ground.  My daughter is in the 90th percentile for height and still tripped.  You could try the lightweight gro bags.  I just put her in two layers of pjs for about six months and then she transitioned to a big bed when she was about 2yrs 3mos.
  • I am in the minority here-- but my daughter seems OK with it. They do run large, as she can just now walk in hers without tripping over excess fabric. I am not a huge fan of the fabric but it has a been a nice middle ground. It isn't super warm, so she wears it while learning to sleep with a couple of blankets to cover herself for more warmth.

  • We do, and it works great.  He slept it in all summer, and usually still naps in the mesh one (fleece at night).  I really like the mesh, it adds an extra layer but the fabric is still breathable.  In the summer it was just like a sheet and kept up the sleep signal that sleepsacks are for him.  I think the material may be a personal preference, but I really like it.

  • DS is almost three and is tall, and he sleeps in a cotton SleepSack in size XL.  He doesn't have all the extra room at the feet he used to have, but it fits.

If you look at the Halo sizing charts, the height and weight recs for the XL cotton SleepSacks and the 2-3T Big Kid SleepSacks are pretty much the same.  Both fit kids up to 40" tall.  Do you specifically want the Big Kid ones for the foot openings?

  • Thanks, everyone. I don't care about the foot openings, I just want one that fits! He's currently in an XL fleece sleep sack and his feet are getting pretty close to the bottom, so I assumed he wouldn't make it through the entire summer in a cotton one that's the same size, especially because cotton shrinks. But I'll cross my fingers and try it.
