DH & I are planning a getaway for a few days in April. We are going to spend a couple days in Washington, DC with LO.
Just thought I'd ask if anyone had any recommendations of a place to stay that's not crazy expensive. We are planning to visit the Smithsonian & other popular sites around town.
Any advice or tips for a DC mini-vacation?
Re: Washington, DC?
You might want to check Groupon or Living Social. They seem to have a lot of getaways that are pretty good deals.
My brother works at the Plaza and it seems pretty reasonable and he says it's a nice hotel.
I've stayed at the Embassy Suites by the Convention Center. It wasn't cheap, but they do have free happy hour!
I second this! I'd look at Arlington (Crystal City, Roslyn, Clarendon, Ballston, and Pentagon City) hotels. They all have Metro stops and are really close to DC. I know the VA side of things, and am happy to help! DC is a pretty easy city with kids. The metro is clean and safe, and most of the museums are free. Have fun!
I live in Rockville, MD!! Yay for local bumpies!
Thanks for your replies ladies. The Metro info is a great help.
DH decided to use priceline.com(it always scares me because you dont know the place until you book it!) He ended up booking a stay at the Renaissance Washington, it looks like it will work for our lil trip!
What are your must sees & stops for vistors?
I'm nervous for LO's 1st trip! He's great when we spend the day out & about around town. Plus, we've already taken a few day trips back to my hometown a couple hours away and he's done great with it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've always like the D.C. zoo. That's where DH took me on our first date. They have a metro stop for it, and if I remember right admission is free. I think you pay for parking, but if you take the metro you won't have to worry about that.
I disagree with the zoo. DH and I had our first date there too! But, most places have zoos, and the national zoo isn't really that great. Wait until you really need kid places to go to the zoo. I would see the American History Museum, the monuments on the Mall, do a Capitol tour (contact your rep's office for reservations). The Spy museum, Crime and Punishment and the Newseum are really cool, but aren't free. I always take people to Ford's Theater and the Holocaust museum. National Archives and the Portrait gallery are worth going to as well.
Thanks for the great suggestions, ladies! The Spy Museum &Crime & Punishment sound neat, JMack! I'm gonna look into all those places! I might need more than 3 days for all that I am gonna want to do. Good thing LO is good while we are out & about!
We are, for sure, checking out the zoo..we are animal lovers & love checking out zoos & aquariums in different areas. Thankfully, now we have a little one to use as an excuse to go!
I'm also planning to take LO to the NC Zoo in April!
