speaking of bath tubs

I don't know about you but bath time is getting harder for a couple reasons.

I put Danica in a little pink tub in the tub and she likes to sit up at first. While she plays with her duckies she leans wayy forward which scares the crap out of me so I always have a hand on her chest to prevent her from dunking her face in.  I used to sit on the toilet and bend into the tub which is killer on my back. MH suggested I kneel down on the ground and over the tub. I tried that tonight and it's a little better. The hardest part is getting her out. When I sit on the toilet I lay the towel on my lap and bend over and grab her and place her on my lap and then wrap her up- I have to hold on tight cause she's all over the place.

Tonight, as I knelt on the ground, I lifted her up and lay her down on the towel which I placed on the floor. It's just getting so hard cause she's getting bigger and heavier and I'm scared she's gonna slip out of my grip.

what do you ladies do?

Re: speaking of bath tubs

  • DH and I do bathtime together. DS is in his bathtub in the big tub.  DH or me, whoever actually bathes him that time, gets him out and hands him to the other person waiting with the towel.

But DH will be gone Friday late so I am anxious to hear what others have to say!

  • I just lay the towel on the floor in the bathroom and pick him up out of the tub really tightly so he doesn't slip. I do worry he is going to slip and sometimes he looks mad at me for holding him so tight lol.

  • We put about 5 or 6 inches of water in the tub and let DD sit or lay down. Usually she likes to lay down because she can make a bigger splash. I kneel next to the tub, on the mat, just to give me knees a little extra cushion. I lay the towel on the floor. That way, when I lift her out, I can just lay her down and wrap her up without her wriggling around too much.

  • We have a bath ring for DS so he sits in that in the big tub while I bathe him and DD. When he's done I lay his towel out on the soft bath rug and put him down on it to wrap him up.

  • Yeah, I guess I could ask him to come in and help at the end- I usually do bath time cause he won't. He will sit in there with us but he won't bathe her. IDK why he thinks this way but he doesn't think it's appropriate. Personally, I think he just says that to get out of it cause he changes her diapers no problem. I have a strange H

  • Probably 99% of time I bathe DD alone. We only use big bath or sink and the towel is extended at hands reach. When we're done, I quickly grab the towel with one hand and hold it with my chin, by then I have both hands under DDs armpits and bring her up to my chest. Then wrap her up. Voila! :)

  • Have you took baths with her? It is our most favorite time of the day, that's for sure. We have a big jacuzi tub and I fill it all the way up, and just have a good ol' time. And I also let her face go under if she leans forward too far, she doesn't mind it one bit and I think it is good for her to be getting used to the water.

Also, she loves the water very warm so it's good for both of us... if you haven't, do it!

You just made me think of my UO! I can't stomach a bath! Maybe if I wear my bikini bottoms I could but I get the heebs If I sit in a tub of water. I think cause no matter how clean my tub is I still think of how much nasty hit the tub my tushie is sitting on. ::shudder::

    But! that's a good idea!

  • We use a bath sling in the big tub, she lays on that, I kneel and wash her, lay the towel on the floor, pick her up, lay her on the towel and wrap her up. Sometimes one of us will shower with her and the other takes her in the towel after.

  • I use my Fisher Price Whale Tub. I have done the bath alone since day one without a problem. (EX would sometimes watch/play but I never asked him to help - he would occasionally bathe LO himself though.)

I sit on the toilet with his tub in the big tub. He loves to play, and he would stay in there as long as I let him. Sometimes I let him sit, but he is happy lounging on the lie-down side most of the time, as long as it is deep enough that his toys float within reach. I tend to fill it up to the top.

As far as taking him out, I don't really find him that slippery. I grab him under the arms and lay him on the towel on the bath mat. I have never come close to him slipping. I think that it is more of something you anticipate than something that would actually happen.

My husband does her baths, but this is exactly what he does. And what I do when he's out of town. Oh, except she never sits up because she doesn't sit yet! So, she just lays in there in shallow water. I can't wait for her to sit up because then the water can be deeper and she can play a little more.

  • Kitchen sink or I shower with LO. The tub kills my back.

  • We used to use a bath ring but it got to be too clunky. Now we use a towel in the tub (thanks to some brilliant July bumpie who suggested it). We kneel beside the tub and are at the ready to catch her but normally she sits up the entire time. It's great...

And lmao at canary - you said tushy - and I love baths but I always take a shower or wash the lady bits (and tushy) after.

  • we are still using the puj tub in the sink... he's totally too big for it but Im hesitant to go buy a baby bath tub when he'll be sitting up on his own soon and then I figure we'll just use the tub as is. Anyways, once hes done I pick him up under the armpits and place him on his towel on the bathroom counter. I dry him then  blow dry his hair :)

Ah this, except sadly, not in a big jacuzzi tub :(

It is fun for both of us! DH does still help though. DD cannot sit yet for more than 20 seconds or so, so he will hold her while I wash her hair and such. Then he takes her and gets her dried and dressed while I grab a magazine,  turn the water up to scalding and pour in my bubbles for my own bubble bath :)

But I have had to do it alone when he has been at work, and it is manageable. Then, when the bath is over, I just have her towel waiting on the floor, and I plop her in the towel and then get out to grab her.

  • I'm always in the tub with her. She sits in between my legs and plays plays plays. It's so much easier to clean her this way, too. Then if my DH is around I pass her up to him and he dries her off. If he's not available I just stand up with her in my arms, wrap a towel around her and walk to her room to get her dressed. Yes I'm still naked at this point, and yes I'm a little bit wet, but only from the waist down so no big deal.

Also, she's dunked her face once or twice, it's no big deal. She pops back up surprised. Same as the first time the shower water sprayed her face or if she tips her face to the sky while I'm rinsing her head off. Truly no big deal, she's not going to drown, I'm right there holding her. She just get surprised.
