Pregnant after IF

Looking for ladies who have used ovulation kits?

Hi everyone!  This is my first month attempting to use an ovulation kit, my period is like clockwork each month so I know when to start using them but is there a certain time of the day it's best to test?  I drink a lot of water throughout the day from the time I get to work until I leave so I am thinking of testing first thing in the morning so my urine is not too diluted - can any of you offer me some advice and have any of you gotten your BFP while using these?  We are currently on a break from our fertility treatments so hoping to use these to time our intercourse.  Thanks so much for your feedback :)

Re: Looking for ladies who have used ovulation kits?

  • I didn't get a BFP with OPKs (we did IVF) but I did get positive OPKs.

Depends on how long of a surge you have as to when you should use OPKs.  Some ladies have a VERY short surge and test twice a day to catch it.  You need to not pee for 4 hours before using the OPK and not drink too much, either, so your urine isn't too diluted.  I only did OPKs with FMU because I would get +OPKs two days in a row.

I've heard that LH is most concentrated around 4pm.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

  • I always did mine after work (I got out at noon).  I tried to hold my pee for 3 hours before I used one.  Good luck!

  • This pregnancy was by IVF, but I did get two BFP's using OPK's.  They worked like clockwork for me.  I got a +OPK every month for probably two years.  My doctor told me to test between 2p and 8p which always worked for me.  As others said above, try not to dilute your pee beforehand.  GL!

  • I had to test every 12 hours to catch my surge because it didn't last long enough to always catch it if I only tested once a day.  I would usually test at 8 am and 8 pm.  I also did temping and charting, just to confirm when I actually ovulated.  Sometimes there was a delay and I didn't actually O until 2 days after the surge.  We ended up getting PG on a non-medicated cycle when we were waiting to cycle for IVF.

  • We timed my IUI's based on OPKs, my RE told me to never use FMU as you could get false +'s.  He said to test using 2nd morning urine after holding it for at least 3 hours.  I was always able to catch my surge this way, some women can't so for them the RE suggested testing twice a day, with 2nd morning urine and again in early evening.
