Pregnant after a Loss

We have a heartbeat, but...

So to catch up from my last post a week ago. I had my 6 week appointment last Friday with no heartbeat. I got the bloodwork back on Monday and my levels looked great.

So I had an appointment today and she said I should be 7 weeks.. We saw a heartbeat, but it was only measuring at around 120 and should be 170ish. AND it is even scarier that the baby is measuring a day or two smaller than maybe what it should be. We took more blood and I will hopefully find out tomorrow.

I am super scared and nervous, my husband said focus on that we have a uterus with a sac and a baby with a heartbeat! Which is so true, I'm so thankful and excited, but I'm so scared this baby will stop growing and the heart will stop like last time. I go back next Wednesday!

Have any of you girls heard of lower heart rates at 120 and or measuring small?!??

  • My LOs HR was 136 @7w. I thought anything between 120-180 was normal. I was definitely measuring a few days behind in the beginning but I know that is common and baby tends to catch up in the coming weeks. Try not to worry and like your dh said focus on the good. GL to you and I will be praying that everything turns up ok.

  • If you are really, truly 7w, then it doesn't look good.

Do you know your exact ovulation date? How did they determine you were 7w?

By lmp, I am almost 9w. But I know when I ovulated, so when I had my u/s on Monday, it wasn't surprising that I was only measuring 6w1d and had a heartbeat of 127.

  • I'm sorry that your u/s wasn't more reassuring.  My LO measured behind at my first u/s, which was at around 9w.  I wasn't exactly sure of my dates, but I knew when DH and I had last BD, and the baby was measuring 6 days smaller than I expected based off that.  By my NT scan, she caught up by 4 days.  Try not to worry, it is very easy for measurements to be off because the baby is so tiny, growth happens so fast, and there is always potential for human error.  Good luck next Wednesday, can't wait to hear a happy update!

  • I would't worry about measuring off by 2 days.  I've heard of measuring off by much more then that and everything being totally fine.  I think 120 is within normal also, but on the lower end of normal.  I hope it all turns out great by next week!

  • I am sending T&P's you in hopes that everything will be ok by your next u/s!  I agree with pp....I was under the impression that a few days off wasn't a big deal.  What exactly are you measuring?  I really hope that all is well for you!

  • Heart rate is within normal range, and if the baby is only measuring a day or two off it could be something as simple as the person measuring clicked a millimeter off and therefore is giving you the smaller dates. At 7 weeks, the baby is so small that it can be VERY easy to be slightly off on the measurements.
  • Like PP said, 120-180 is within the normal range. I hope they are able to give you good news soon.

  • At 6w3d the twins were in th 120's, I think you are fine. Their heartrates sped up from there and are now in the 150's. Relax and enjoy

  • My second loss had a FHR of 68 at 7 weeks, and THAT was not good.  I did a lot of research and everything I read said that anything over 120 has a regular prognosis, anything under 100 has increasingly poor rates of survival.  I wouldn't worry a whole lot about 120 at this stage, (easier said than done!) but it sounds good to me, a little on the lower end but not LOW.  You easily could have implanted 2 days later, things are so small it's hard to say.  *HUGS*

  • Hi, at 7 weeks my hb was 128, dr. said it was completely fine.  I wouldn't be too concerned about 1 or 2 days, it's totally normal.

  • Our first u/s with DS was at what I calculated to be 6w5d based on ovulation date.  He measured 6w2d and heart rate was only 97.  The tech was not concerned at all, and DS is now 3 years old and totally healthy.  The calculations are accurate +/- 3 days for early u/s.  Don't worry unnecessarily!  Good luck at your next u/s!

I haven't had the same thing, but I wanted to let you know that my doctor's office is happy with anything between 110-200 for a HB.  Also, please realize that the measurements right now are partially estimates, as what is being measured is sooo tiny.  When I had my first u/s with this pregnancy, LO was about 3-4 days behind my dates, and the PA was fine with that.  Now, LO is measuring 3-4 days ahead of dates.  Don't get too hung up on the exact dates.  If your OB isn't worried about the measurments, then you shouldn't be, either.  HTH!
